“Always enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

We have been travelling around France for some years now and it's always good to stop off at La Maison Blanche, where it is reliably comfortable, very clean and most of all very welcoming .... with marvellous breakfasts too! Annick is a fantastic hostess, friendly and warm and always seems willing to go the extra mile for her guests. I have noticed some adverse comments re the size of one of the rooms ... well, this is a very old building and one of the charms of staying in an unusual place like this is the quirkiness and sheer 'differentness' of it all. We have stayed in many places all over France and La Maison Blanche really does stand out as a place I would recommend. Annick's house is wonderful, with a large park (two horse and a lama to visit) and plenty of outdoor seating to relax on. On top of that there is a kitchen for the guests too .... it's got it all! A 15 minute walk down to the Loire (great market on Sundays), 10 mins to Clos Luce (Leonardo Da Vinci's house) and did I mention the wonderful breakfasts?? Bravo Annick, thank you again for a wonderful few days!

We had a delightful 4 night stay at Maison Blanche. Annick is a superb host and Zazu (spelling) is a cute puppy (Annick can make him sing!). It's very quiet and you barely knew there were other guests there unless you met them at breakfast. Annick goes to great lengths that there is a different and unique bread at breakfast every day; along with home made jams. As others have said, you would be hard-pressed to find a better spot to tour the chateaux and other spots in this part of the Loire valley. And there is a separate kitchen that any of the guests can use. Internet access is spotty at best, but you know it was kind of nice to not be tethered to the internet! I could access in the courtyard, but not in the room. Others have commented about the shower in the corner room. We made it through OK, but I would at least encourage the addition of several non-slip mats because the tile floor does get slippery when wet. However, this is a centuries old manor and its little quirks are what makes it special and memorable. Annick has done a tremendous job over the last 20+ years in making this a very unique place to stay...and her vivacious personality and love for what she does made it by far the lodging experience we cherish most out of our 2.5 weeks in France. Thank you Annick

We travelled to Amboise by car from Paris with another couple. As we drove up to Maison Blanche we were delighted with we saw - the charming original house is imposing, and the renovated old stable block is pretty and quaint- there were even beautiful roses in bloom around the stable door entry to our room.
Annick, the delightful hostess was animated and welcoming on our arrival. The rooms had not been assigned by our travel agent, so it was the luck of the draw as to which rooms we got. Annick handed us the key for the middle room on the ground floor block, while our friends got the room in the left hand end. The difference in the rooms was quite significant - our rustic room was huge with a double bed and a single with a large, nicely decorated bathroom and separate toilet.
By contrast, our companions' room was very small - long and narrow, and the shower cubicle had only a shower curtain, which did not contain the water well. We suspect we were given these particular rooms as we were travelling together and it had an adjoining door. This did prove to be useful, as we used our room for a meal and pre- dinner drinks.
The breakfast room was charming and the breakfasts perfectly fine, with a variety of cereals and home-made jams to chose from, with a selection of breads and pastries daily. We enjoyed Annick, who is very lively, funny and animated, and speaks perfect English - her new puppy, a bloodhound, was cute, and we discovered she also had horses and a llama. She had very funny stories to tell, especially when our roof developed a leak in a very heavy downpour, and she had to call on her elderly neighbour to stem the flow.
On reflection, La Maison Blanche provides a great base for exploring Amboise, the hostess is great fun, and the rooms adequate, but it would pay to check which room you are getting if you have booked ahead. While it has a well equipped kitchen for guests' use, the addition of a laundry would be a great asset. The outdoor area outside the stable block conversion has great outdoor furniture and would be lovely in fine weather, but sadly it rained for our three day stay.

Room Tip: The room on the bottom left ground floor of the stable block conversion, is narrow and quite small...

We stayed one night as part of a cycling trip. Annick was very accommodating of our early arrival and let us into our rooms early. We had rooms in the old stable block which were spacious and comfortable with large, clean bathrooms. It was a very pretty and peaceful spot to stay and about 10 minutes walk into the centre of Amboise. Breakfast was very good with plenty of excellent jams as we have come to expect of a French breakfast. We also enjoyed meeting Annick's puppy and the cute black cat!

This place the picture of a charming country chambre d'hote. Could not ask for a nicer setting, or better location. It was like staying in a park. We really appreciated the big Great Dane puppy, two cats, two horses and llama on the premises.

Our room was lovely but not very functional. The space was chopped up to fit the foot print of the old building and meant that there was no place to sit, other than on the bed. Even though a tiny table was provided between the foot of the bed and the armoir, there was not room to pull the chairs out and sit. Reading other than on the bed was out of the question. Trying to find a place to put luggage was challenging.

The shower had no curtain or curb. Maybe people get better at controlling where the water goes with practice, but we did not master not soaking the rest of the bathroom in four days.

When weather is nice the outside is generously furnished with tables and chairs. But finding shade was not easy.

There is a well equipped kitchen for guests with fridge, sink, microwave, plates, utensils, etc. We never did figure out how to turn on the lights in that room. We are guessing a combination time switch/motion detector that was not adjusted to turn on until it got pitch dark. Even when it was light outside, we could have used some illumination for preparing food and dining.

Hostess is charming and helpful. Breakfast is typical but excellent. We started speaking French we did not even know that the hostess could speak English until were were there a couple of days.

Room Tip: Rooms are apparently different from each other. Negotiate for the larger ones.

The hostess was very helpful in pointing out attractions in the area .The bakeries and restaurants in Amboise were exceptional.

What a gorgeous B&B! The house is just on the outskirts of the little town of Amboise, surrounded by beautiful landscaping, walking paths, and a fenced yard with a horse and llama. The hostess and owner Annik is a charming, very helpful, and sweet woman who certainly knows how to strike just the right balance between hosting and leaving you to your visit. Our room was huge with an equally big bathroom. It was very comfortable, clean and well kept. We had two young children with us, and Annik made them feel quite welcome. Breakfast each day was a generous spread of homemade baked goods, yogurt, cereal, coffee and cocoa, etc. The Maison Blanche was truly a highlight of our two week visit to France, and we look forward to returning to this jewel of a hotel someday.
