“What a location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2011

Wonderful hotel near the castle. 5 minutes walk till town and all the restaurants and the castle. We took in the light show in the castle and it was charming and fun. The room we stayed in was very clean and very modern. The entrance from the front yard made it very private. The town of Amboise is a great home base for seeing the area castles.

My husband and I spent six days at Le Manoir les Minimes taking day trips to various chateaux in the Loire Valley. The location is fabulous right along the Loire River making easy driving to Blois and Tours and easy walking to Amboise. Enjoyed our spacious room, delectable breakfasts, and excellent service from the knowledgable concierge who made site-seeing recommendations and dinner reservations for us nearly every day. A must return for us. Anne & David Menotti

My husband and I spent two nights at Hotel Le Manoir les Minimes and had a nice stay overall. We were on the top floor in a room that faced the river (I think 22?), and my chief complaint is with the slanted ceiling/roof eaves and the exposed beams. While charming, it wasn't ideal for my husband who is 6'2". That said, I don't fault the hotel for this; we checked with our travel agent who ensured us that this shouldn't pose a problem... Also, it wasn't such an issue that we needed to switch rooms.

The room was very good-sized with a spacious armoire, and the bathroom was especially nice and well-maintained (not to mention, spotless). There was a small table and chairs, too. Some of the room decor was a little worn/dated, though, like the flimsy decorative pillows on the bed. Also, you'll find the standard European hotel hair dryer in the bathroom, which I always dread.

Our rate included breakfast each morning, which was a typical continental breakfast. I don't know that I would have opted for it if it wasn't included in our rate, but the food was fine--and we especially liked the pain au chocolat.

The staff was great--very helpful in making dinner recommendations and calling a taxi for us to get to the train station the day before we left. I might add that if you have a need for a taxi, plan ahead. The poor guy had to call several taxis before he could find one who was available the next morning for us.

Location couldn't be better. You are literally at the foot of the chateau and perhaps a five minute walk to the town center, where you'l find plenty of shops, cafes and best of all, bakeries. I would highly recommend the macarons from Bigot! It's also relatively close to the train station--just on the other side of the river.

We stayed at this hotel in October and really enjoyed the convenience and location for walking around Amboise and getting in the car and visiting all of the chateaux in the area. It has lovely sitting rooms and the grounds are nicely manicured......however we were not overly impressed with our room. We were situated on the top floor, right at the top of the stairs (room 22) and hardly slept at all for our 3 nights stay. First of all my husband is 6'1" and couldn't go on one side of the room as the ceiling is vaulted. Secondly, the floors were very creaky and we could hear movement in the halls and the room beside us. The first night I thought the hotel was haunted as I heard this creaking until 2am! (I even took sleeping pills and still couldn't sleep!) The next 2 nights it wasn't as bad but I would not stay at this hotel again (feel we've 'seen it, done it' for Amboise). Thirdly, the decor was slightly outdated (trying to be antiques but felt junky) and the cleaning products were extremely strong and had to air our the room every day. The staff were friendly and recommded 2 great restaurants for us. Our views of this hotel may have been slightly down as we just came from a beautiful Relais & Chateaux hotel in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape region.

THe quiet elegance, the views from the rooms and the breakfasts make this one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. From the rooms you can see both the Loire and the Amboise Castle. The grounds were lovely and, like the rest of the hotel, no detail was left unattended. The rooms we had on the First floor were large and comfortable with a sitting area and a spacious bath. A short walk thru the narrow streets took you right into the old part of Ambois and the Castle entrance. The owners and staff were most helpful and pleasant and Olga was a lovely housemate for those missing their own pet! Great value for the Euro

Immediately upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room even though we were checking in hours before check in time. Our attic room was extremely clean, quiet and comfortable with fabulous views of both the river and the castle. The downstairs area of the hotel is beautifully kept with lovely furniture and flowers everywhere. There is a bookshelf of guide books just inside the front door. But the best part of our stay was the exceptional warmth of the people who worked at this hotel. They patiently answered lots of our questions about places to visit and how to get to different areas of the Loire Valley, including some tips about the best chateaux to visit given our interests. In addition, they kindly made suggestions and reservations for us for dinner in town. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk into town where there are restaurants and shops etc. My daughter and I both loved this hotel and we thoroughly recommend it.

This hotel is a gem. We paid for an upgraded room at the front of the hotel with a view of the Loire River bridge and the Chateau Amboise. Well worth it. The room and public areas were extremely classy, with many antiques throughout.
