“Proper old-fashioned hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

A nice older hotel, with attentive reception staff and very nice rooms. On a back street near the centre and within easy walking distance. Wi-fi good and all facilities well-maintained. Public rooms fairlty understated but I don't spend much time there anyway.

Parking tip: when you turn into the street (Rue des Fleurs) ahead about 200m you will see a maroon awning on the left; that is the hotel entrance (hotel has yello walls). About 50m before that, on the left, is a large green gateway with a brick ramp down under the hotel to park. Leave your keys with the hotel receptionist in case he needs to move the cars around. Easy really and free.

Bottom line, recommended and I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Try to get to the basck, although it all seemed quite around there to me.

Signposted from the main street, Hotel Victor Hugo is within walking distance from the station Dijon Ville, yet escapes traffic noise. The room was well set up, with large shuttered windows that looked onto a small back garden. Facilities were ensuite, spotlessly clean and serviced daily. We were on the first floor so did not look for a lift, so I am not sure if there was one.
We had breakfast on the second day and this was orange juice, coffee or tea, and bread and croissants with an assortment of spreads. Simple but adequate.

I really enjoyed staying here. For one night (August 2012) I paid 39euros, and an additional 6euros for breakfast.

My room was spotlessly clean, the decoration in the hotel's public areas is quirky, but very good.

Comfortable bed (no squishy mattress experience).

It's not a hotel to lounge around in, but for an inexpensive place to stay, and being close to the centre of Dijon, it gets a big thumbs-up.

10 minute walk to city centre, this hotel is situated on busy roundabout. We were travelling home, so stayed just 1 night.
Rooms are nice (but not as nice as described on the hotel website), beds are a fine as are other amenities in the room. Sound from other rooms (was there a honeymoon couple in the room above us.... ;-) is somewhat hindersome
Staff is very friendly and helpful.
We did not take breakfast: 12 euro's for a french breakfast (coffee, croissant and strawberry jam) seems somewhat expensive.

Hotel Victor Hugo is fine, for the price. The mattress was squishy, the 'water closet' was a literal interpretation and the 'petit dejeuner' erred well toward the 'petit' side of things. But really, it's a great location, very affordable and a friendly place. I'd just not be burning up my time in Burgundy here. Get to the countryside.

I was headed to Dijon from Italy by train and scoped out hotels on Tripadvisor. This hotel was at the top of the list, and priced right for my quick trip in and out of Dijon. I emailed the hotel and got a favorable response quickly. I was able to arrange the whole reservation by email on my smartphone while on the train--Excellente! I arrived in the evening and the staff was very friendly and I think he spoke perfect English--but his French/English information was perfect. Good clean rooms, breakfast would have been ready if I hadn't had to leave so early. Loved the location--5 minutes from trainstation and 5 minutes to great restaurants--and Les Halles. The hotel had a nice courtyard that the rooms looked out onto--and I heard the hoots of an owl during the night--perfect!

AS with other reviewers, I found the room comfortable, nice shower with plentiful hot water. The hotel is on a quiet residential street but our room faced the courtyard and was very quiet. No lift if that's an issue and car parking is available but a bit tight as is true of much of France. Very accommodating staff and between my fractured French and their shaky English we had no trouble communicating. A short walk to the old city but note that as of April '12, much of Place Darcy is under construction making driving and walking that area a bit of a challenge.

Room Tip: Ask for courtyard view.
