“Lovely restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012 via mobile

Enjoyed our stay at Phillipe le Bon!
Overall the location was handy in old part of town and the reception staff were very helpful. The room (superior) was very nice, spacious and the bathroom modern. The restaurant was beautiful although expensive - unfortunately not open on Sundays. Breakfast is good. Would stay here again.

A superior double room booking ended up being a twin which bore little resemblance to the website image. The room was much smaller than anticipated and with dirty walls. Ended up not eating in the restaurant but breakfast was average at best despite premium rates. Of all our stays in France this one left us feeling cheated. Avoid.

Nice hotel, good location and a garden to relax in where meals and drinks can be enjoyed. We had a generous sized room in the old building which was nicely furnished. Breakfast was charged seperately at Euro15 per person. We ate there only once since attention to the freshness, quality and service offered was sadly lacking, and the value very poor.
This is an International hotel but there were no English speaking TV channels. The hotel lacked anyone giving any attention to detail. We reported that the mini bar wasn't working, five days later it still awaited repair/replacement: the shaving mirror in the room was unuseable as it was not properly fixed to the wall: The staff, apart from reception, were generally not interested or professional in their jobs. We ate, one evening only, in L'Autre Entree where, in a totally empty restaurant, we sat for 15 minutes waiting for a welcome, a menu and a drink, from the two male waiters.
A nice building, but as an hotel in need of some courtesy and care from the staff.

What a ripoff this hotel is! The rooms are filthy, cramped and totally unfit for even the most budget conscious traveler. Our sheets were dirty and when we asked to have them changed we were told by housekeeping that the pillowcases are only changed once a week and the duvet covers once a month--just disgusting. The food in the 'gourmet' restaurant was clearly reheated and totally overpriced. Whoever chose the artwork and interior furnishings clearly has no taste. While the buildings are historic and have potential, the lobby resembles a brothel with ugly red couches and the dining areas have strange and even violent portraits of gun-totting freaks. The owner was present during our stay and was totally pretentious and rude to us and other guests. She refused to honor coupons that another couple had purchased in advance. So sad that what could be a quaint hotel perfectly located has instead been left to deteriorate in the hands of incompetence. We ended up leaving after the first night and headed straight for the Wilson which turned out to be lovely even though it has only 3 stars. Avoid Philippe le Bon at all costs--there is certainly nothing 'bon' about it. It doesn't even merit the one bubble that we are forced to grant it.

We stayed in a 1st floor twin bedded room.
There was a separate toilet and bathroom.
The beds were comfortable but there was no real sound-proofing, although the location is in a quiet street. A problem with our aircon was fixed quickly. The carpets were a little grubby, otherwise the room was cleaned well. There was almost no storage space. We left our clothes in our cases!
The breakfast at 15 euros was pricey but of high quality with a wide choice and was replenished as necessary. It was served in the restaurant building.

Location is ideal for the city centre but the rooms are generally disappointing & prices for the better rooms are far too high. No car parking on site either, although there is a public car park nearby. Service is at best 'iffy', hotel bar is overpriced as is the resaturant.

Room Tip: Normal double rooms are tiny but the (slightly) bigger ones are very expensive. Bar is sometimes ope...

Great boutique hotel in a good location, newly refurbished with funky decor & very modern bathroom, although there was a pitched roof over the toilet so you had to crouch to get down onto it - weird! Reception staff were very friendly, although they did push a little too hard on the in-house restaurants, refusing to give any other recommendations.
