“A Must-See When in Beaune”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

I have visited la Maison Drouhin twice during visits to Beaune. Tours were with Jean-Pierre Cropsal, who is charming, knowledgeable and an excellent host. The underground cellars are very interesting, as is the area that was walled off to keep the rare wines away from occupying forces during WWII. Tasting afterwards is excellent as well. But the history and setting are simply awesome.

I suggest writing ahead for tour arrangements. And plan a few extra minutes to find the entrance, as the tiny streets in Beaune can get confusing.

“Wonderful welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

We had a very personal tour, a visit with Véronique, toured the amazing cellars, and tasted a whole range of wines.
Well worth the time to arrange

“This is a must visit. Multiple levels of perfection.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

We were lucky to gain access to this delightful, old, historic winery.

Founded in 1880, the cellars are located at the center of the city of Beaune. The impressive network of caves/cellars, covering over two acres, was built between the 13th and the 18th Centuries and is fascinating to walk through; to inhale the fermentation musk and be a part of history.

You'll learn how to properly taste wine while being in a very special, magical environment.

We were able to meet Véronique, who is a 4th generation wine maker. She is considered the "guardian" of the Joseph Drouhin style.

Here, in Oregon, we're very fortunate to have all the elements for great burgundy wine making and In 1988, together with her father Robert Drouhin, Véronique vinified the first vintage at Domaine Drouhin in the Willamette Valley. Véronique is the master wine maker at Domaine Drouhin.

And the wines, you ask? The wines are recognizable for their great purity of taste. Young, they possess fruity and enticing aromas; with age, wines from great vineyards/appellations acquire a sumptuous complexity. I think they are superior to the Napa Valley wines, and are priced accordingly.

If you haven't tasted their wines, you're missing out on one of the great pleasures in life. The wines are recognizable for their great purity of taste. Young, they possess fruity and enticing aromas; with age, wines from great vineyards/appellations acquire a sumptuous complexity.

Visit if you're in France; or visit if you're in Oregon. You won't be disappointed.

“Classic visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

Pierre Cropsal is an integral part of Beaune, and his knowledge of all things wine is fabulous as he takes tours through Drouhin's ancient cellars. The wines are as interesting as the history.

“Wow is not enough to describe the cellars!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

It was a special moment when I had the chance of visiting this place situated in the center of Beaune but not open on a regular bases to the classic tourist. We had a private 2 hour visit wandering through the 1ha (2.47 acres) of cellars with walls discovered to be from the Roman times and the first cellar to have seen is from the 4th century. I have been told many times about this cellars but I only understood when visited recently.
If you are passionate enough about wine it is possible to visit by RDV only. The wines are the classic big négociant style, just good.
