We recently spent two nights at Chez Marie and could not have been happier with our choice of lodging. Marie greeted us warmly upon our arrival and led us to our spacious accommodations in the Annex, a comfortable living area with kitchen supplies on the ground floor and lovely bedroom (with comfortable bed and linens) and bath on the second. Free parking was just down the block and once we parked, we never drove anywhere because it was fun exploring Beaune on our interlude between Paris and Lyon.
Chez Marie is ideally situated just a few minutes' walk from the center of the charming old town, and for our first visit there we decided to take advantage of that proximity to just explore some of its attractions. Marie and Yves were delightful hosts, and their young son was darling. Marie provided great tips, like buying the legendary Fallot mustard (good tour) at the nearby grocery rather than at the factory for better prices, and getting discounts on admissions to attractions at the local tourism office.
Breakfasts were served in the lovely garden (How DID they get that beautiful, massive, ancient portal into the courtyard???), and featured Marie's homemade preserves, fresh fruit compotes, delicious granola, fresh squeezed orange juice, croissants and bread, coffee, tea and the sublimely creamy yogurt Marie makes. We look forward to returning and to exploring more of the surrounding wine route, which features so many notable vineyards.
