“Wonderful dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

We had a superb Sunday mid-day meal here and it is easy to see why the restaurant is so favorably reviewed. We both had the Saveur (Flavors) Menu at 54 E with 2 choices at the appetizer and entree (they also served an amuse bouche and tasty bread). The entree choices were Pigeon (boneless) and Salmon. Every course was elegantly prepared and served. The entree was followed by a small cheese plate with a chef's creation of a delicious "cheese mousse" which looked like a small soft round cheese (hard to explain, easy to eat) and then a dessert sampler and elegant fruit/ice cream tower. A very creative and well-paced meal and dessert served by a competent and attentive wait staff. There was an extensive wine list but only 1 pinot noir and 1 chardonnay available by the glass. They were both of good quality and a glass of white followed by a red worked well with the meal. Note that this is a very small restaurant and likely fills quickly. I would think that reservations are a must.

“Best Restaurant in Beaune”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

Beaune is blessed with many fine restaurants but we dined in the best for a week and this was the best for food, atmosphere and service. It was a delight.

“Pretentious Michelin star restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

I have been to this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday. The ambience is great, but the service is poor, the waiters looked too tense which changed our mood immediately. The quality of food might be OK for a Michelin star restaurant, but we found it too much pretentious. We felt like the chef was trying extra to recreate everything. We prefer the same quality food with a more simplistic touch. I had grilled filet mignon which was served with a moussed potato and puree of carrots and stewed beef wrapped in a slice of zucchini surrounded with different colors of roasted beet. Every different item tasted great itself but overall the tastes and textures were not matching at all. For people trying to taste everything together it might have been a wise choice but not for us.
Most importantly, the waiter who was told to be an apprentice misinformed us about an item regarding our allergies. For a restaurant this upscale you don't let the apprentice waiter to serve a table with food allergies. It was not the poor apprentices fault but the restaurant management's huge ignorance which ruined our night.

“Very nice meal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012 via mobile

We had the degustation 'mystery' menu here which was very nice, and were recommended some excellent wine to have with the meal. Only 1 waiter spoke English, but he went out of his way to make sure he came over to explain each dish as it was served. The apperatif (pre-meal) were very gastronomical, and we were very excited for the other dishes, but they were a little safer I guess you would say. Still a very nice meal, and would recommend for a special occasion.

“Not sure how it gets better than this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

I have been to France three times and eaten at a number of Michelin Star restaurants. Le Benaton takes the cake for creativity and presentation. The Menu at around 55 Euros was more than enough with considerable thought and care presented. The service was attentive with our glasses never being empty. The flavor combinations are also very thoughtfully done. Mushrooms with chocolate, Foie Gras with Cranberry, etc. While I'm sure the French don't give a lick about the food network, I felt like I was on the winning team for an Iron chef competition.
