“Great place for lunch and tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Very cozy tea room with a great selection of specialty tea and coffee and delicious lunch options like quiches (also vegetarian). By far the nicest place we saw in Avallon!

“A wonderful place to eat lunch in a leisurely manner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Behind the unimposing facade and close tot he centre of Avallon is this wonderful eating place. We chanced upon it and had lunch. The rooms are understated, the menu simple plus lots of teas and coffees. As a vegetarian i was impressed at the 3 choices for the main, a rarity in France. I chose the potato gratin with salad whilst my partner had the salad au moment (duck breast). We had a glass each of wine to complement Both were quickly served and looked appetizing and were very tasty. My dessert was rhubarb tart with matching ice cream, my partner had rhubarb sorbet and both were great. We ended with coffee and the meal cost 30Euros. The meal was a clear demonstration of how a good chef can take simple ingredients, cook them well and serve beautifully resulting in a sensory and tasty experience. A wonderful place to eat lunch in a leisurely manner. My tip is book a table they get full quickly for lunch.

“Perfect lunch and tea rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

Quirky interior, lots of different teas, truly home made food - makes a lovely lunch or tea stop in Avallon.

“Love it love it love it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

I was a regular at Dame Jeanne until we sold our property in the area, but I had a chance to go back for lunch recently and remember how much I miss it! There is light fare on the menu but you must select one of the specials of the day - they are usually hearty French fare served in little enamel pots. Things like Boeuf Bourgignon, Coq au Vin, etc. I had a stewed pork in a provencal sauce with a potatoes au gratin that was outstanding. A nice Irancy wine and save room for a Tarte Tatin. Try it with the home-made cinammon ice cream instead of vanilla (but you can also have creme anglaise or creme fraiche - mmmmmm). If you are really hungry, order the gougères made with Epoisse cheese cream as a starter. These are without the strong rind so it is not overpowering at all and they are really very delicious. This place is everything good French cooking is about and I look forward to going back again and again.
