“Charming Campsite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

Tranquil campsite with plenty of rustic charm. We only stayed for one night , as an ideal for stop over en route south, but enjoyed the atmosphere and we plan to return. The highlights for us were ........the cute ducks to feed , the beef bourguignon on sale (just bring your own pan), seeing a beaver swimming in the river and the total peace.

We stayed here en-route to Northern Spain. What a fabulous place. Although a little difficult to find, when we did we were very impressed. The site itself was picturesque and clean. The chateau produces its own wine which was very crisp and lovely. The menu needs to be revamped to accomodate more normal food, although there was a pizzeria which we decided on and that was lovely. Staff were fabulous and helpful. The bar had several tvs which suited my husband watching the euro football. While i sat and stared and the lovely ice cream cooler!!
To leave the campsite, we had to drive through the most quaint french village. Absolutely gorgeous.
This is a lovely campsite for a stopover or a long weekend

Nice site overall, loved the Degustations (wine tasting) in the chateau's cellar.

Playground perfect for two year-old but probably would bore anyone much older pretty quickly. Feeding the ducks at the lake was always entertaining.

Bit disappointing that the bar closed at 8pm from 10th September onwards. Canvas Holidays failed to mention this when we booked, their information said the bar was open til 10pm throughout low season. The shop was well stocked but a bit pricey, but there are supermarkets within 15 mins drive.

The local lake (10 mins drive away) was fantastic for swimming. In August it's 7Euro per car to go in, but once the schools go back it's free.

Room Tip: There are sites right on the lake where you could probably fish from your caravan/tent if you so des...

This site is perfect for a one-night stopover or for longer if you want to look around the lovely area of the Saone valley. Easy to find from both north and south directions from the A6 motorway. At Sennecy le Grand take the D18 signed Gigny. Campsite is well signed. All easy to negotiate.

The entrance to the campsite is very large and easy to access. Plenty of parking space while you check in. The site is in 2 parts. One is near the Chateau and the other is across a bridge and is a larger area. Most people stay near the Chateau as it is pretty, but we prefer the openness and larger pitches a bit further away. The pitches away from the Chateau are larger and very easy to access. You can even leave your car hitched upon some pitches if you are just doing a one-night stop. Some of the pitches near the chateau are sloping, but those across the bridge are all flat.

There is a well stocked shop and a nice outdoor pool area. Also a small indoor pool and spa area. There is a pleasant courtyard at the Chateau for a drink and also a restaurant in the Chateau. We did not try the restaurant, but it looked full as we walked past – always a good sign. There is wine tasting in the cellar of the Chateau a few times a week and we bought lots of lovely red, white wine and cremant (dry sparkling). Plenty of information at reception about the local area. They are very helpful and always looking to have a chat. Free wifi near the shop/courtyard.

The toilet blocks are well fitted out and kept immaculate. Our one grip is that the only bins are at the entrance to the site and it is quite a trek from the far end. They really could do with some more bins at the far end of the site. We just dropped the rubbish off as we passed or took the dog for a walk.

There are plenty of places to visit nearby and lots of wine growers to visit. The river Saone runs just behind the site and is a gentle walk. You can walk for miles along the river banks and there are virtually no houses. Very peaceful. Chalon and Tournus are a short drive away and well worth a visit.

We will stay here again and again, as we head past on our way south or on our way back north. This is a perfect site in every way and highly recommended, especially if you are towing a large unit.

Room Tip: Try the wine tasting in the chateau cellar

This is a very good site with large flat pitches. The sanitary blocks are very clean although you might have quite a long walk. There is a good restaurant and pizzeria. The countryside is good for cycling. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful. We would certainly go back.
