“Average Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

We stayed for one night at the family suite (2 separate rooms with common toilet and shower). I believe the price of 200 euros (not including breakfast) was too much for the facilities of the hotel. The room is below average, with old aluminum doors but electrical operating shades...The beds were very soft, making sleep almost impossible. On top of that, it is located in the basement, below ground level from the side of the sea and WI-FI is just not working. We told the receptionist (a very nice lady, speaking only French) about that but she did nothing. And i am sure we weren;t the only clients who have said that. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ROOM!!!! The positives: small but free parking, nice lounge with a huge window facing the ocean, nice breakfast area, next to the beach, friendly staff. If i had to choose, I would go to another hotel for the same amount of money

Room Tip: Family Suite in the lower level should be avoided!! No internet at all in the room(and the hotel man...

Family of 4 we stayed for 3 nights in April 2014. Hospitality of service and location (in front of the sea) are outstanding. Beautiful living room with fantastic views over the bay. Excellent value for money and facilities according to a 3 star hotel. 15 minutes walk to Saint-Malo center is a pleasure.

We arrived at the hotel last week to be greeted by an overwhelming stench of damp and.....a little girl sitting behind the reception desk. Although very lovely, polite and speaking quite good English [although i speak enough French to get by] we were informed that the hotel is closed due to lack of water and we were re-booked to another hotel. We were told that our new hotel was called Cartier and given the address. Unfortunately Sallie, our satnav decided not to co-operate on this occasion and we were told by the[lovely] little girl that the hotel 'was just there!'.
....Just up there was another Cartier - Ibis, where we were given the right instructions with a map of the old town [Intra Muros] and right directions.
1st - you do not send your child do your 'dirty' work.
2nd the hotel smelt really badly and was obviously damaged during February's storms and therefore the owners had more than enough time to inform me via phone/letter/e-mail of the problem
3rd - although hotel Cartier was fab [!] we were lucky that we went there out of the season, as otherwise we would have to pay 20 euros per day to park outside the town's walls [no parking's available inside Intra Muros]
MY VERDICT - NIL POINT/ZILCH/ZERO/NOTHING!!!

Room Tip: just don't go there as the customer service is not to English standard as no-one here would send...

My wife and stayed for 3 nights in October. We arrived on the ferry from Portsmouth at 8:15 am and drove to the hotel. We were told that the normal check in time was 2pm, but as they were not busy we were able to have our room. The room overlooked the car park.

We were surprised as having booked 6 months earlier we were told that it was not possible for us to have a 'sea view' room. We met someone in the hotel who had not booked and were given a 'sea view' room. Luckily the weather was beautiful so little time was spent in the room.

The room was adequate, storage, en suite, comfortable bed, clean and Wi Fi. The en suite facilities were OK but the fans did not work so they smelt musty. There was also mould in the shower which needed a good clean.

The location is great and the panorama window is a great place to relax. After a long day of walking around St Malo we relaxed looking at the Atlantic and ordered a cool lager. We thought that 8 euros for 2 half pints steep and did not drink there again.

Overall adequate but nothing to rave about.

I have just returned from a glorious holiday exploring the Normandy & Brittany Coasts of France. The last 3 days of our trip were spent in Saint Malo, from which we traveled to le Mont St. Michele, Dinard and Dinan; always coming “home” at night to the Hotel Alba. We discovered this “gem” by accident as we drove into town and saw a small sign pointing us to the next street. When we drove up the street, which seemed more like an alley than anything else, we were pleasantly surprised to see the hotel, which is right on the quay. You can’t get any closer to the beach than this. You can walk all the way to the old city of Saint Malo in under 15 minutes, longer if you stroll. Christian was the man of the hour, manning the reception desk and bar, not to mention carrying our bags up 53 steps to the 3rd floor room without mumbling one word about how heavy they were. (Note: the hotel does not have an elevator, but I liked the exercise). The room was very clean and modern and had perfect Wi-Fi (free) reception. We chose a room that didn’t face the Atlantic, which I think was the way to go as the winds coming off the ocean, were fierce. While we only ate breakfast (12 Euro/pp) once, the spread was nothing short of spectacular! Fresh fruit, local Camembert cheese, an assortment of yogurts, breads, cakes and anything else you can dream of. Free parking, although you may need to leave your keys at the reception for them to “juggle” the cars a bit. Great restaurants in the neighborhood too. The best part was sitting in the bar looking out the largest (and cleanest) picture window imaginable at the kite surfers. Delightful hotel and Christian was the BEST!

Room Tip: We liked having a room that didn't face the Ocean as the winds were fierce.

We enjoyed a 4 night stay at the Hotel Alba. Nice location on the ocean. Easy to find with some parking. We has a sea view room and absolutely loved it. What a view! Nice bar and lounge overlooking the boardwalk and sea. Room was somewhat small but comfortable and modern. Friendly staff. Ample breakfast at 12€. Be aware that the hotel has no elevator and you must walk up 12 steps to reach the reception. Rooms 20-28 are up 40 steps. Other rooms are up 20 steps from the reception.

Room Tip: Choose a room with sea view. Breathtaking.

A small but very comfortable hotel. We had a room with a sea view which was worth paying a supplement for as the sunsets were superb. The rooms are a bit small but presume that's because they try to get as many with sea views. A good 10-15 brisk walk to the walled town. We stayed there for 2 nights before catching ferry home, you can watch the ferries leaving and arriving from the room. Breakfast at 12 euros per person were worth it, all very fresh and plenty of choice. Parking is free on site but spaces are limited and can't be booked. Don't take any notice of the guy that tells you that the hypermarkets are open on Sundays as we had left buying wine etc, but when we found it, it was closed as they never open on Sundays, so we had to make do with buying on the ferry which isn't as good for choice.
