“Clean, friendly English-speaking staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2009

We stayed at this hotel while visiitng our daughter who is studying at the University. The room and public areas were very clean, functional and well maintained. Rooms are large by European standards, beds a bit firm but typical for Europe. Nothing special about the room but is was very clean, and cleaned well every day by the maid. Breakfast is a bit expensive but very good. I suggest the cafe on the corner next to the hotel if you just want expresso and a croisant - much cheaper and they were very friendly. The staff spoke adequete English but prefered to communicate in French. They were very helpful with directions, restuarant recommendations etc... Location is great, near Republique metro stop (2 short blocks away) and walking distance to fantastic shopping and restuarants. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights on my way to a small place in Britanny.
The hotel is very clean, the bathtub especially seemed to be shining both days (the cleaning had been done thoroughly), something that I have not often seen even in more expensive hotels. The staff is very friendly yet professionnal. You can have your breakfast in your room, a very good quality and quantity, and coffee and milk were hot. Although it was freezing cold outside all radiators (in the bedroom, bathroom and toilet) worked perfectly. The location is perfect, just next to the buses and metro at Republique and not very far from the station (2 stops by metro or a reasonable walking distance). There is a bottle of water in the room when you arrive. I cannot think of anything negative to say. I would not go anywhere else in Rennes!

  • Liked — The cleanliness and the friendliness of the welcoming staff.
  • Disliked — There aren't many places like that!

it is a smart clean hotel, english speaking staff, very efficient. nice breakfast. the bar though well stocked had no bartender in it, maybe you will have to ask the reception. indians take care to take two pin plugs only for their chargers. ask for directions to le gandhi, a nearby indian hotel. better idea for alchohol lovers is to buy their bottle from the nearby supermarket, it will be much cheaper that way. i found this out on the last day after spending many times the amount of the bottle on single drinks in the local bars. metro station is just round the corner. make sure you review all the mercure hotels of the area before doing the final booking for the best deal.

There are a number of Mercure hotel in Rennes, so make sure you don't mix them up (like I did when I landed). The location is good as it is close to the city center and still walking distance (15 mins) from the main train station. The rooms are clean and OK, but the toilets (separate from the bathroom) are too small (you can barely fit in it) !

  • Liked — The central location
  • Disliked — Size of the WC
