“The best looking restaurant, & meal, of our Brittany holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

This was a place recommended to us by the locals, & we could see why. Soon as we came through the door, we were struck by the look of the room, the view of the old port from the terrace, & the friendly & helpful staff. We immediately booked a table on the terrace for that evening, & what turned out to be the best meal of the holiday. Not the cheapest meal in Dinan - but you can get tired of crepes - & the menu was excellent with a very good choice, the food was delicious, & the waiters & owners made that extra effort to be welcoming & helpful. Delighted to be told that a buzzing noise was "only the wine" - it turned out to be paper wedged in a window that was vibrating in the wind.

“a great memory”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

we visited in 2011 and this restaurant is on our list to return this year. Yes, the view is beautiful but it isn't necessary for our top rating. The service was excellent, the atmosphere welcoming, the food memorable. we shall return !

“From an old gas station to a gourmet paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

Upon arrival I was not surprised by the building itself, but by the wonderful view to the old city of Dinan (in my opinion one of the most lovely in Brittany). We were welcomed by The maitre himself, who was helping out his staff at that time. Inside, the decoration is very charming and cosy, nothing is left by chance... The service is remarkable. But most importantly the food is a real treat. Flavours are mixed in a perfect balance... The only possible remark I could make is that there exists only one single restroom for quite a lot of tables. Price was reasonable during luchtime.

“Wonderful traditional food with views to match”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

Wedged between the edge of the gorge and the heavily trafficked viaduct this is an unlikely spot for a restaurant; it just goes to show that when you get pretty well everything right, it really doesn’t matter where you are. The instant you walk through the door you know that it’s something special, a sort of picture book retro of an idealised country restaurant kitchen. Impeccable doesn’t do justice to the care with which the entire scene has been well, composed. It is in short, a work of art on how things ought once to have been but never really were. Ask for a table in the veranda that wraps around the restaurant for the views are stupendous. Below lays the Port of Dinan with its medieval buildings which run along the waterfront before winding up the escarpment to the city ramparts.
Normally at this point, so many restaurants would be content to trade on the view but not this one, it’s very position outside of the town means that it attracts little if any tourist trade, yet business is booming. It draws its clientele from business people, professionals and the relatively well heeled locals who come to savour its largely traditional but always impeccably executed cuisine.
On our last visit I ordered as usual, pig’s foot in a croustillant pastry case which was beautifully cooked. Claudie went for the crab and artichoke, a delightful tower of artichoke hearts and white crabmeat all perfectly seasoned, lightly herbed with chive and accompanied by a light mustard vinaigrette sauce; simply perfect. Our main dishes of salmon and lamb were more traditional but packed with flavour.
Wine isn’t cheap here unless you pick the house selection; we chose the chardonnay at €26 which was perfectly acceptable. The service is efficient and unrushed and when time allows, friendly. The entire meal and wine came to €75 and we can’t wait to come back when our friends arrive from the UK. This is what eating in France should be about, family restaurants delivering unmatchable traditional cuisine but with the occasional Michelin tweak.
