“A Warm Welcome After a Wet Ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

We have just spent 10 days travelling through some of the most inclement weather that one could hope for in France (June). This would be OK in a car but we were travelling by motorbike. We were riding for three to four hours often through constant driving rain, If we were lucky the rain would cease and the ridiculous wind would dry us off. This was mot the case the day we arrived at the Ibis in Perigueux, we were sodden.

At times like this little things make a difference.

We were offered a convector heater to help dry our stuff.

There was a trolley to help get the luggage up to the room.

We were able to hire what was described as a box but turned out to be a heated garage to make the bike secure overnight.

The room was functional slightly ageing decor but had a great view of the Cathedral. There was a bath which was good to warm up in. The WiFi worked well. We used the bar after failing to find anywhere better in town early on a Sunday evening. The staff were friendly and as I said helpful.

We left in the morning in dry clothes (albeit not for long).

I would really recommend this place because, when we needed warmth we got it (from a corporate)

Our expectations were not high but this hotel was excellent. A clean good sized room with views of St Front Cathedral. Quiet with very helpful staff, and for someone like me, the icing on the crown was a free internet computer in the foyer. I don't do wi fi. Good value, and right on the riverside. Limited hotel parking but with a free parking lot a few yards away this was not a problem. Just a short walk from the town centre.

Room Tip: Try to get one facing the Cathedral at the back.

Spent two nights here. Disappointing service considering their commitment to sort out any problem in 15minutes. Initially greeted with indifference, and then at times downright unhelpfulness bordering on rude.
Accommodation standard, no frills. Breakfast good.
Clean and tidy. Very handy to medieval city

Most of the staff were friendly enough, apart from the young waitress who embarrassed us in the restaurant by continually repeating French words and expecting us to eventually understand. We were clearly unable to speak much French and all she had to do was get an English speaking staff member who was close by. She probably didn't mean to cause offence but she did. As for the hotel room, it smelt damp and was way too hot, even with the air conditioning turned on full blast. Great location though but just a typical cheap old Ibis that needs tearing down and rebuilding.

If you've stayed at an IBIS (aka Motel 6 in USA), you know what to expect. However, this is a step above the usual IBIS. The lobby & small bar/restaurant actually have some ambience & are very welcoming. Fantastic location & easy to access, with "limited" free parking. Park the car & walk immediately into the Old City Center. It can't get better than this for location. Just FYI if this is your 1st visit to Perigueux, as it was with us ---- this is yet another French "town" that maps show zero indication of its size. This, like Brive & dozens & dozens of others, is MUCH bigger than you might anticpate. This is a large city, but very easy to navigate & a wonderful old historic city center. But do not mistake this for the smaller, more atmospheric towns you might be anticipating in The Dordogne Region. It is a major commercial center.

Room Tip: Get rooms facing the front & river. On the street, but not a late town so the noise is not a pro...
