This hotel is not really bad it just needs some upgrading. The room we had was very large even by our American standards. The beds were fine and the room was clean, but the chairs were armless and overstuffed. Free Internet in the lobby.

Yes, the carpet is a bit threadbare and dingy but the room was large and everything was clean. The lobby was wonderful for the tile floor and interesting furniture. The hotel staff was very proficient in English and very kind and helpful. A good value for the price.
Unfortunately, no AC here. Had there been AC we would have stayed a second night because we liked this hotel.
Parking was secure and underground but remote, probably a block away, maybe two, to roll/carry our bags.
We arrived late and the restaurant was crowded so our service was a bit slow but the food was good. Waiter was friendly and fun to visit with. Good breakfast the following morning.
Really, we'd rather have a room that could use a bit of sprucing up like this one, than the same room in the same hotel with everything new and a higher price because of it.
Loved the view from our window and window shopping and wandering the neighborhood were fun and interesting. Watch the traffic control borne in front work!
The photo posted by the hotel, and the traveller photo, of the room are realistic, including the saggy mattress so I didn't post another photo of the bed.
Staff were very friendly and helpful but the bedroom was disappointing. However for the price paid, I suppose we should not have been surprised. Very central location.
When we checked in our room was stifling: south-facing, no A/C, no ceiling or any other fans. Had to keep the window wide open all night. There were drunks yelling to each other at 3 a.m., 2-stroke motor scooters reved up to a zillion rpm tearing around in the wee hours, and more common traffic noises at other times. I would not stay there again. In fact, should I return to the area, I would not stay in central Pau. It is a very difficult-to-navigate small city.
Good things: The hotel restaurant had a nice breakfast. There is a small parking garage with no additional charge for parking. The hotel is certainly centrally located.
This has been a grand hotel in its day - however that is the problem, it has had its day! Some of the fitments in our room were shabby to say the least.. We were on the fifth floor and for the first few days of our stay, the only elevator did not work. It was a long walk... Paint on the exterior shutters was old and flaking. Hand held shower unit was ineffective. We asked for tea and coffee making facilities - which arrived, with one day's supply of tea and coffee, which was never replenished. Towels etc changed every day - however, the beds were not always fully made up. The beds were also old an 'lumpy'
One the lift was fixed - it was quite noisy - especially since our room was located right across the corridor.
Staff however were excellent. Our French is not good - however, because we made the effort they helped us out!! Their English is excellent.
It is in a central location - there is upgrading of the pavements etc on-going at the moment, but that should be finished soon.
We could be encouraged to stay there again - however - please be aware that it is, in our opinion, not the most luxurious.
We ate a couple of times in the restuarant at night and the food was good and freshly prepared. Breakfast was always fine - the member of staff who worked there most monings was happy to bring espresso coffee if required.
Because we were seeing our daughter who has moved there for a year we stayed for 2 weeks - and to be honest we became used to its quirkieness and willreturn.
