“Delightful Discovery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

La Flambee Hotel & Restaurant was a wonderful recent discovery and I would recommend it wholeheartedly - with just 1 reservation, that the lovely ground floor rooms with garden terraces are not soundproof from each other or the corridor. This did not bother me greatly and was more than compensated by the location (a couple of Kms from the Station and the lovely city of
Bergerac), its garden setting, the pool and superb restaurant which offers a very reasonable lunch Menu (4 courses with wine for Eu17!). The staff were very helpful and friendly and the little fridge in the room is a most welcome feature during the summer.

Bergerac and its area it can be tough to find places for the night during the high season. La Flambee is close enough to the city to be there in 10 mins in the car, but too far to walk. Its on the Bergerac<>Perigeux road, so a bit noisy we found, lorries and cars all use this road to leave Bergerac in that direction. After a warm welcome by the staff, we sat by the very nicely large dimensioned swimming pool from 2:00 PM onwards and frankly it was too noisy to get a siesta and offputting for a drowsy afternoon. The room was small, a large rectangular table making circulation a bit tight, and the bed was ordinary. Bathroom really nice, clean, tidy, modern and good size. Minibar was useful
The meal was below average by French standards, in fact when ordering the Confit de Canard we learned that we couldn't choose the cooking of the meat because it was already cooked. Sorta gives the game away, and my Tuzard fish was a little tough, obviously not fresh fish. I might be wrong but I get the impression many of the meals ar epre-cooked, ask them is my advice, before you make your choice. I expected better for a 3 star.
The breakfast was very ordinary, being totally served i.e. no buffet, no choice of any meats, no fruit, the yogurt was warm, the fruit juice drink was industrial, practically tasteless and the apple sauce was practically as warm as the air, 25degs C this August. Serving cheese in plastic is what you might expect outside of France or at a Formula 1, but not in a 3 star hotel. At €13 per person, this was very pricey and the most disappointing part of our stay, very poor. Management, you need to pay more attention to these details, especially be careful serving un-refrigerated items or taking them out of the fridge far too early in these heat waves days.
Shame really 'cos the building is very nice, grounds too, but I'm afraid the rest let this down.
Only a stopver place really until things improve

Room Tip: Ask for even numbered rooms, facing the parking and main entrance, you'll avoid the busy road no...

The entrance to the hotel doesn't prepare you for the lovely building you are about to meet. Main building very imposing. Very friendly welcome with beers served in the courtyard on arrival.Three fixed menus. Middle price offered very good value but limited choice for vegetarians. Room had good en suite facilities. Some noise from nearby main road but ear plugs sorted that issue. Didn't try swimming pool but it looked very clean and was well screened against road or any wind. Overall a very nice place to stay.

This hotel is first class. It is a converted small chateau set in its own grounds with additional accommodation in outbuildings. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and this even includes the large Doberman.
Ideally you need a car as the hotel is nearly half an hour's walk from the centre of Bergerac along a pavement by the main road but a walk removes any parking problem in the town.
Our room had a large bathroom and the bedroom although not large was plenty big enough but if you are tall the doorway produces a smack on the head until you learn.
The restaurant has very good food with a wide choice and the Bergerac wines are very good. I would reccommend this hotel to my friends and hope to stay there again.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main building are probably better than the outbuilding although I have not seen the...

The meal we enjoyed here was one of the best we have had in the area. The menus are reasonably priced and the fish backboard specials are really inovative and well cooked. The service is efficient and the staff very welcoming. The wine list is comprehensive and includes lots of local wines. Definately worth a visit if you are celebrating a special occasion.

Just beside the road and next to a garage. Does not sound like the countryside, but La Flambee has created a bucolic retreat.

Rooms are basic - but quiet and clean despite some mould in the shower tiling. Get over it - it's only mould.

Dinner and the wine list were excellent despite somewhat over cooked langoustine: everything else was more than good.

This is an excellent stop for those travelling with dogs.

Professional, correct staff with welcoming management.

If you are in Bergerac and prepared to step outside the plastic formula hotels this is the place for you.

I agree with previous reviews that if luxury modern rooms are your style then this hotel is not for you. The rooms we had were large, comfortable and clean with updated bathrooms. We had rooms facing the busy main road but this was relatively quiet at night. The food is excellent with a daily changing offering of fresh fish. Most staff spoke English so any queries on the menu were easily resolved. The prices were good value for the quality of cooking and there is an extensive wine list with a good range of prices from modest to expensive. We found all the staff friendly and helpful. The grounds are extensive and well kept. There is a large pool but when we were there in September the water was very cold. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. The medieval centre of Bergerac is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Try to choose a room away from the main road.
