“An hotel that spells class and elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2011

My husband and I stayed at the hotel between Christmas and New Year. What a pleasure. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. They were immensely helpful. As first-time travelers to the region, they have made excellent recommendations in terms of restaurants and places to visit. Our room was very well laid out, super comfortable and had a stunning view over the ocean. The spa facilities were also excellent. The breakfast buffet was delicious, with a huge variety to choose from. We had a truly magnificent experience and we can recommend it without hesitation. It is pricey, but definitely worth it.

Had a seaview superior room. Room small and unremarkable but very quiet and views made it special. Breakfast room very special. Staff charming. Location outstanding.

This hotel was one of those stay that you remember forever.
Decoration, impeccable bedroom and bathroom.
Amazing service at dinner although they made mistakes in the plates. Their manager actually saw the mistake and kind of put the staff down in front of us. It was not necessary I thought.
Great experience at the Spa where me and my boyfriend were treated as king and queen!
Amazing pool with sea water.
Walking distance from the beach.
Very noisy at night. Our room was facing the street.
Overall incredible experience.

We came to Biarritz especialy to stay in this hotel. From the moment i saw the first picture of this hotel, i knew i wanted to stay here. I'm a big fan of castles and palaces, and also of history. So staying in a former Imperial palace was definitly one of the decision factors.
From the first moment you set foot in the hotel, it's relaxing and luxurious. The doorman takes care of your bagage, a friendly lady of the front desk gave us a tour around the hotel and then showed us our room, were the lugage was already arrived.
Our room was spacious and nicely decorated. You first entered a small hall, with four doors. One was for a large bathroom with seperate toilet, the second was for a spacious dressing and the 3th one was for the bedroom.
We hadn't expected our room to be so big, since we had taken the cheapest room available.
A fruit basket was there as a present and was refilled when you took something. There was also each day a complimentary bottle of water. Each night, as the maid opened up the bed, there were some lovely chocolates on the bed.
We took the imperial package which means you'll get diner or lunch at the restaurant La Rotonde. You can choose a menu or a la carte, without extra charge. The cocktails in the Imperial bar are great, though pricely. Both the bar and La Rotonda our nicely decorated and you'll have a great view watching the sunset over the ocean at evening. The service in both the bar and the restaurant was friendly and excellent. We opted one evening to eat at the 1 michelin starr restaurant Villa Eugenie. Again, this was a great experience. Lovely interiour, again, and again, excellent dining.
The breakfast is again, flawless. Lot's of choice of cakes, breath, cheese, cold meat, cereal, ...
The pool is very large and it's excellent to relax there.
At the check out we ordered a taxi that would bring us to the airport at the evening. We arrived back in the hotel after a final walk of the boardwalk and our taxi was already waiting with the lugage already taken care of. We only had to get in.
I'm definitly going back to this hotel. It's not the cheapest hotel, but you'll get an excellent service for the price. It's rich in tradition and history, as the pictures of famous people who stayed there that are hanging in the halls and in the Salon Eugenie, show you.
If you don't mind the price tag, do yourself a favour and check in to this palace by the sea.

Wow, this is my sort of hotel I absolutely adore hotels that are perched overlooking the ocean. The Hotel Du Palais is just a totally blissful experience it oozes with elegance, sophistication and style.

Check-in: The only horrible experience of the hotel. We checked in at 3.30pm and were told our room was not ready. They offered us free drinks on the terrace overlooking the ocean which for a moment did take away our frustration. However; after waiting one hr we eventually had to stamp our feet a few times before we got some action.

Our Room – 342 was enormous & gracefully furnished with a huge king size bed which immediately made my hubby happy. Off the bedroom was a separate large dressing room and an equally massive bathroom. The room was the size of a suite.

Swimming Pool – Is absolutely fabulous – large and deep perched proudly overlooking the ocean. There are plenty of deck chairs available. However, some of the best positioned ones had reserved signs on them which was annoying as most of the day they were not being used.

I would highly recommend you reserve a chair on arrival. There are also some very cute cabanas for hire with their own bathrooms, table & chairs if wanting a private lunch connected to the poolside.

Restaurants & Bars – We enjoyed having breakfast in la Rotonde the main restaurant with fabulous ocean views. The breakfast was very expensive but worth trying once for the experience.

The pool side restaurant Hippocampe was again pricey but the food was very enjoyable except we felt the portions to be very small. There is also a seafood buffet available which did look fabulous.

The main bar le Bar Imperial has a pianist playing which is relaxing whilst having a nightcap or early evening cocktail. You can certainly rub shoulders with Movie stars, the rich or famous in this bar.

Car parking – Fab free outdoor security parking.

Overall: Hotel Du Palais comes with a hefty price tag but it’s absolutely worth every cent and definitely worth experiencing one of the Leading Hotels of the World. I would love to come back again one day...

My boyfriend's mother has a house in Biarritz but for fun we decided to stay at the Hotel du Palais for a romantic weekend getaway. I was totally blown away by the location, service, staff, and accommodations. I have stayed in Biarritz several times and visited other hotels but this is the place that will make you feel like royalty!!

It definitely comes with a fairly hefty pricetag but the value is great. The pool is fantastic - it's enormous and full of therapeutic sea water. It is perched on top of the beach Amalfi Coast-style. You can enjoy a civilized and delicious lunch by the pool and then pop down to the beach for some amazing surfing and fun! You must have breakfast in the dining room. Even when it is crowded it is so spacious that you feel like you are enjoying an amazing breakfast alone by the beach. There are huge windows looking out over the pool and ocean, and the food itself is delicious. It can get pricey at dinner so we usually go to the town to eat. Try Chez Albert for incredible seafood!

The location is spectacular and within walking distance of everything fun - the aquarium, cliff of the Virgin Mary, downtown Biarritz, and just a short drive to golf and other great beaches. Biarritz is also a short drive (1 hr) from San Sebastian, Spain (also in the Basque region), where there is incredible food and nightlife. Try the Hotel Maria Cristina for something similar to the Hotel du Palais!

The staff is friendly and respectful and I have always been treated fabulously by every single member of the staff despite being far from the biggest spender. The rooms themselves are incredible -- the hotel was originally the palace of Napoleon's wife Eugenie and is in the shape of a big E. We had a room facing the pool which was lovely and one facing the beach which was breathtaking. All the rooms are huge and decorated in luxurious furniture and sumptuous fabrications and textures. Both my boyfriend and I are fans of modern architecture but even we can appreciate the authentic luxury and decadence of a hotel like the Palais.

As a special treat during our winter stay my boyfriend booked us both massages. The massage itself was first rate and the spa is incredible. There is an indoor pool with a huge roof window and side windows so you feel like you are right next to the ocean, along with hot tub, steam room, and sauna.

I cannot recommend the Hotel du Palais enough for an unforgettable stay!!

I didn't really stay here, but I got pictures of it. It's a nice place, the dining room has excellent views of the water.
