“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Lovely lovely hotel, very modern bathroom and nicely decorated bedrooms. Sebastian is very helpful and charming with his tips about where to go and what to see. Nice breaky - European, nice touch homemade yoghurt. would stay again for longer. Stairs are a bit tricky but that's because its a very old establishment. Well done and thankyou.

A very well presented property tastefully renovated, though be aware the rooms are on the first and second floor with a rather narrow spiral staircase.
You are welcomed graciously by your host, given plenty of local tips and shown to lovely rooms, ours were adjoining bedrooms one was small with separate toilet and shower (glass fronted in bedroom, so if you are a bit modest this one is not for you). Good water pressure and hot water, air conditioning and WiFi. The other fronted the street with a generous sized room and bed, a more desirable bathroom with shower over bath , toilet and basin all in one room. Towels given for two are french style ( 2 small and one larger), shower gel, good linens, smallish pillows. A cognac at bedtime in lovely glasses was a treat. Breakfast served in the downstairs dining/lounge room is lovely with fresh juice, fruit, homemade yoghurt, bread and pastry basket with homemade preserves and coffee and tea. Very generous. All the staff are friendly and accommodating. A lovely stay in a very convenient location.

Sebastian welcomes you with a glass of cognac to his renovated home, A four storey town house on the edge of the old St Pierre district. The rooms are spacious for an old building with unusually, plenty of power points. The beds are large and comfortable with a modern walk-in shower en-suite. Can not recommend this gem of an hotel too highly.

We stayed for 4 nights in May 2013 and loved every minute of it! Sebastien and Aude were great hosts and the atmosphere was friendly and fun! We were lucky to enjoy a "hosts dinner" and highly recommend. The property is beautifully decorated and the facilities of a very high standard. We were able to walk everywhere and took Sebastien's advice regarding sights and restaurants...we werent disappointed. This B & B delivered for us on every level and would highly recommend to couples of all ages.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor on the street side, we had no issues.

We really enjoyed our stay at this B & B. Sebastian and Aude were extremely hospitable and we really enjoyed the dinner on the Monday night we arrived. The rooms were beautiful with lovely balony, large shower and very clean. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. Overall, we would definitely recommend this B & B in an excellent location so anyone thinking of spending some time in Bordeaux.

A lovely hotel with very tasteful décor, a very warm welcome from Sebastien, Aude and staff, very friendly and lots of information given. A little gem in Bordeaux and not sure if it is wise to share how good it was with everyone else ! Thanks for the cognac Sebastien we had a lovely weekend with you x

Room Tip: Possibly not on the ground floor as you may hear people coming in and out

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

We stayed at Au Coeur de Bordeaux for 2 nights in April 2013 and had a very nice stay. The b&b is located in a historic building with traditional French architecture, but is nicely decorated with a traditional and modern theme.

Shortly before our date of arrival, the owners sent us an e-mail with many helpful tips about the property and local area, and were also quick to respond to our questions. The staff also sat down with us upon our arrival and offered tea and coffee, as they reviewed with us a map of the local area, highlighting key attractions.

We stayed in the Suite Haut-Brion & Sa Clarence, which was exactly as pictured and comfortably fit our group of 3 adults. The room is located on the 1st floor (equivalent to 2nd floor in American terms). I really liked the high ceilings and exposed brick, which both added to the overall ambiance.

The daily continental breakfast generally included croissants, fresh fruit, a prosciutto and cheese platter and homemade yogurt, which was very good.

As other reviews have mentioned, the spiral staircase is very steep and narrow, so may be difficult for people with mobility issues to manage. However, Aude offered to help us with our luggage, both when we arrived and left.

The location of the b&b is fairly central, but on the edge of the historical centre. It's about a 10-minute walk from rue sainte-Catherine. The walk to and from this area is very busy during the day, but very quiet at night after all the shops close. I wouldn't say the area is unsafe at all, but just quiet.

Overall, I enjoyed our stay at Au Coeur de Bordeaux and would consider staying here again!
