“Lovely hotel in a good position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

Positives
I liked the modern look
Big room. Had a fridge. Good air con. Nicely decorated. Cool bathroom
Very helpful reception staff that spoke good English
Riverside location. 10 minutes from the main drag.
Food market on the quai beside the hotel on a Sunday morning
We drove to the hotel. It was very easy to find using the sat nav. Parking garage just beside the hotel (bit expensive)
Great city. Lovely vibe on a Saturday night
Hotel was good value for the location, the quality of the room etc

Negatives
Reception staff recommended restaurant Jean Mi for dinner. It was very close to the hotel but a poor choice. Atmosphere was good but food was very mediocre.
No view from room 505

The hotel is approx half an hour from the airport and will cost you about 45 euros in a taxi.
The hotel served a purpose, and was about 10 minutes walk from the main hub of Bordeaux town. They must have had some building work going on as all the corridor carpet was covered in a plastic sheeting. The room was basic but clean, facilities include coffee making facility and a mini bar. the view was okay - but not scenic. Staff were helpful and friendly. there is a restaurant on site but to be honest we never used it as there were so many to choose from in town.
The hotel is situated just across from the river- which makes for a pleasant walk into town.
This hotel is okay to base yourself from

Room Tip: the higher the floor the better the view

Located in a very modern building - part of a business centre. Okay, the modern all glass buildings in the centre may have a certain artistic /architectural appeal - but as an hotel, well no. To me it was bland, sterile, soulless and clinical. It is really a place just to spend a night(s) in - come in, go to your room, sleep (or whatever), have breakfast and go again. Windows in rooms don't open, so no question of fresh air. Yes, you have a/c. Breakfast room on the top floor with lovely panoramic views of the city - but it only opens between 06.30 and 11.00. Big balcony around the breakfast room - again lovely views but it seemed to be a dumping ground for unwanted hotel bits and pieces and was only open for breakfast times.
Car parking a major issue. Underground car park has to paid for by the hour - cost me €27.20 for 1 day, 2 hours and 4 mins. You're in a no-win situation because you have to pay by the hour on the street (max time of 2 hrs). Solution - none ! Just pay up !
Some good points. Reception staff superb - most helpful, courteous and obliging. Rooms good - quite spacious, soundproofed. Breakfast good - great variety, plentiful and good staff

The hotel is in a modern office building located about 10min walk north of the main commercial area, hidden in a small square off the main street along the river. On this main street, in front of the square and the entrance to the underground, public, paying car park, there is a very handy tram stop.
Our room was spacious, with a bath, regular furniture and facilities, quiet, no view except over rooftops.
Breakfast was expensive so we chose to have it in the restaurants nearby, of which there are several nice and friendly where we also had dinner.
The restaurant was closed and so was the topfloor terrace.
Pets are allowed.
There was free internet access by wifi in the room.
In short, nothing to write home about but a decent place to stay for a few days if you mostly want to visit the city and the vineyards in the surrounding countryside.

The rooms are plain business style with standard rooms varying in size and wardrobe space. Most have showers rather than a bath. There are tea and coffeee making facilities in the room. The breakfast is a good buffet style and the views are stunning from the new terrace area opening out from the breakfast area. Reception staff are good and speak English. The location is very good with a tram stop just outside. Surrounding bars and restaurants are good and more competitively priced than those right in the centre towards the cathedral. Taxis are a rip off - use the bus and tram which are cheap and very frequent. The tourist office is very good.
Now for the things which are not so good - housekeeping staff don't seem to notice faults like lights out , loose/broken toilet seats, lack of towels and broken air con etc reporting the faults to reception may take several reminders and some days to get a response.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet as the hotel is off the street. Check the air con is working.

Stayed two nights with wife to retour the area. The Mercure is a great base from which to explore the city. Tram is just outside and centre ville a 10 minute walk.
Hotel quiet in August but very comfortable With good bedroom space, clean and well appointed. Lovely to have English news digest everyday. Breakfast avoided as nearby cafes have better selection. Lobby and bar a little cramped for more than the few in residence. Staff polite and efficient.

Room Tip: Parking expensive. Great tyre place three doors down if you hit one of the multiple potholes.

The Hotel is hide away from the Street and most rooms will have no views. We stayed at the 6th floor which you can just about see the River. The location is excellent as it is only one tram stop away from the centre where all the Restaurants are situated. It would be better to walk back to the hotel after a meal. Beware of the taxi fare from the airport if you landed in the evening as after 7pm the fare is double compare to during the day rate. Getting around is easy as you can purchase a one day ticket or 7 days ticket 4.10 & 11.00 euros repectively. Reception staff is very helpful and english speaking but all other staff are very below par with their english.
