“worth a stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

Just returned from a tour of Alsace. Can recommend this hotel. Very clean, good service & ideally situated near the 'old town'. There was some noise from a nearby nightclub which did detract a bit. Suggest parking in the 'Austerlitz' parking place as it is only 11 euro for 24 hrs and an easy 10 min walk to hotel.
Now on to Colmar, Metz & Arras.

Room Tip: TRy for a room at the rear. Much less noisy.

This hotel is in a great location and the room size was very nice. We had room 3 which was near the breakfast area and the windows looked out to a nightclub that opened at 11pm. We did not hear any noise from the club. Parking was extremely difficult but there was an event in town. Everyone was great but valet parking would have made this hotel all 5 stars.

Fantastic hotel in old city area, and easily assessed from SNCF Strasbourg and all beautiful old attractions. The room is modern, clean, space, and the reception is very warm and helpful. They have a locker room so i can just drop my case and get around early. The environment is safe and quiet at night. I stay at high level (4 flour) and the cathedral is just outside my window! It is a perfect decision to stay at Hotel Gutenberg.

We booked this hotel based on reviews in trip advisor and were so happy we did. The room was spacious (we booked a privilege room) and clean. The location was central and an easy walk to the sites and the staff was great. We were especially happy with Melanie (fantastic suggestions for dinner and general help) and the night guy (Paul?). Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to others.

We were booked into this hotel as part of a package, so I suspect we were allocated a very basic room. It certainly had no nice view, which was a bit disappointing.

The plus points were that it was spotlessly clean and very quiet. The negatives were that it was in the attic (sloping beams to hit heads on), the lift only went to the 4th floor so bags had to be carried up the final flight of stairs ourselves and the shower had very limited headroom (ok for me at 5 feet 3 inches, but not so good for my 5 feet 9 inch husband).

I'm not sure whether upgrading to a privilege room would have eliminated the negatives, but for a couple of nights it was fine.

As an aside, I was also very worried about how we would escape in the event of a fire as there appeared to be only one way out - via the stairs. However, I noticed later that there was also a trapdoor marked as an emergency exit, which was more reassuring. You hope you won't need it, but you never know ...

As others have said previously though, the service from the staff on reception was excellent. That, plus the central location, makes this a hotel a good choice for a visit to Strasbourg. If you could get a non-attic room that was still quiet, I expect it would be even better.

Dear guests,

Thank you very much for your review on TripAdvisor. We are delighted that you appreciated our staff and service.
No matter if our guests choose a package or not because we always accommodate our guests in nice rooms. Some people like these attic rooms, others do not. We regret that your room did not meet your expectations.
We suggest you to book a Privilege room, larger room if you want to come back in our hotel.

Our hotel is checked twice a year by a company in order to respect the fire safety rules.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again.

Best regards.

My boyfriend (who is from Straubourg) and I can't say enough about out 12 night stay at Hotel Gutenerg. We will be back! Our room was spacious and modern but with charming details, so we didn't feel like we were staying in a cookie cutter chain hotel. We loved the location and walked everywhere, plus there was a parking garage less than a block away for our rental car (expensive but convenient). The cathedral is a stone's throw away, as well as the water taxi tours; there are lots of little restaurants to choose from depending on your mood; and there are shops everywhere from boutiques to department stores nearby. The folks working at the desk were fantastic at all hours of the day and night; they directed us to a laundromat, a doctor, the tramway, and parking options during our stay. We can't speak for the breakfast, since we ate out, but the dining room always looked clean and cozy. We would highly recommend staying here, and we will be returning for our next trip.

Room Tip: We had an interior room that did not face the street, and it was quiet.

We arrived in Strasbourg by car - which was not a great idea. The city centre is a maze of one way streets and pedestrianised areas and the hotel does not have parking, so we abandoned the car 10 minutes away and walked in.

The hotel is a beautiful old building one block from the cathedral. The interior has been recently modernised with questionable taste - in the main stair well the old bannisters have been painted purple along with the old exposed beams.

Our room was in the attic and afforded us fantastic views over the cathedral. The room was very modern and minimal - although the choice of cupboards looked like kitchen furniture. The room was wonderful and light with three windows looking out on to the city. The bathroom was the smallest I've ever seen, but it was functional and clean with a good shower.

Breakfast was a great selection of hot and cold food, however, at 12 Euros a head extra, it might have been better to eat out at one of the many cafes in the area.

The bells of the cathedral start early so you can be up early to enjoy the city!

Dear guests,

Thank you for taking the time to post your kind comments regarding your stay at our hotel.
We are delighted that you are pleased with our convenient location. Indeed, our attic rooms are charming and the view over the Cathedral is wonderful. Thank you very much for your nice pictures! At 30 meters from our hotel, is located Parking Gutenberg and at 400 meters, parking Austerlitz. Guests satisfaction is our highest priority that is the reason why our breakfast has been improved in quality and large choice of local products. (11 € per person).

We are looking forward to welcoming you again.

Best regards.
