“Solid Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

Placed here by Espace Randonee, the wonderful company that organized our private bike trip. Hotel is across the street from Strasbourg's train station, which is super convenient. Nice lobby, comfortable yet small/spartan rooms. Good service and internet; logons only last a few hours. Breakfast is fine. Would return.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2014 via mobile

We stayed for a night last week. Hotel is very well sited near railway station, trams and buses. We had no issues with the staff who were both friendly and helpful. Alas, the Wi Fi was a joke.
A ticket had to be obtained at the desk which had a life span of 8 hrs then had to be renewed. Ok it was free, but so it should be.
Breakfast sadly lacked much variety of fruit and you were expected to saw your own chunk of bread from batons. Not a very good breakfast buffet considering the space available.
Room was ok,but getting a bit jaded. Excellent view of Station entrance and a vibrant scene below.

Madame, Monsieur,

Cordialement
Karine

Excellent location, opposite train station, and thats all really. Very mediocre room, old, tired and needs refurbishing - tatty shower curtain. Breakfast poor, little choice. Wifi a joke, only allowed two (i.e. laptop and phone but not for iPad as well and it only lasts 8 hours). The bar is like a pub with no beer, no wine etc. Staff helpful and good English spoken. Would not stay there again.

Madame, Monsieur,
Cordialement
Karine

A great central location and very near the main train station. Staff are very welcoming and speak English very well. Room is very clean. Television with local and international channels, mini bar and wifi. However, you have to go down stairs every eight hours to sign back on. Which is a pain to do.

OK - on the good side, it is opposite the railway station, and there are dozens of excellent restaurants close by - and a pleasant easy walk to the centre of town and the Cathedral (unmissable). The room was clean, reasonably sized and comfortable. Now - the two negatives. The WiFi and the breakfast. For the WiFi (which, to be fair, is free), you are given a "ticket", and you need one for your laptop, one for your phone, and one for your Kindle! But the stupid, stupid part of this is that they ONLY LAST EIGHT HOURS - whether you use them immediately or not!! So, if you wake up early, they have expired. RIDICULOUS!! Breakfast was mediocre, and overcrowded, but plenty of good cafés close by. Overall, it could be "Grand", but it isn't! Oh - and the one lift has a mind of its own!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

I stayed here for a week for a business trip, but didn't do research on my own to arrange a hotel (rookie mistake for someone that's been doing this for way too long to make those). The location is great (probably why there are 10 other hotels within 50 meters) and the staff was nice, but hotel was nothing special. It definitely didn't live up to its title.

I was "upgraded" when I arrived to a room that didn't have a shower. No big deal, people have taken baths for thousands of years, I could deal with that, but did have a lot of mold in bathroom. For a cleaning crew that entered the room every single day (even when the do not disturb sign was posted, and after the front desk put a no-service notice on the computer) their results were lacking.

I can't even begin to describe the "breakfast". The coffee was decent, but everything else was absolutely terrible. Thankfully, though, there are plenty of French restaurants and bistros within walking distance. A little pricy, but much better option than the liquid eggs (imagine egg beaters instant eggs poured into a tray over a stereo canister.)

The biggest issue I had with the hotel was the claim that "all taxes are included". I ended up being charged a daily "Strasbourg tax". When you book on their site it will give you an invoice listing all taxes were paid, but the hotel staff refused to follow-through because "it is not a hotel tax".

Bottom line, if you're looking for location and have other options for bathing and eating (a local gym perhaps, since this hotel doesn't have one) than you will be ok here. If you want a decent hotel, try one of the other dozen or so hotels within a km of the Strasbourg station.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a shower. They are in some of the suites, but not all rooms have them.

This is a perfectly fine hotel with a good atmosphere and incredibly conveniently located next to the station and a short walk from the old city. All in all OK, and our rooms were comfortable and quiet though everything feels like it's in need of a refurbishment soon. The staff were helpful.
