“A Grand Hotel with a Grand View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

This is a grand old hotel which has been very tastefully modernised with all facilities, including air conditioning in the rooms. On the front side, it overlooks the Place de la Gare, and the space-aged frontage of the railway station. (The Place is always busy with all manner of people making their way to and from the station, using it as a park and enjoying the occasional public entertainment.) All staff were very pleasant and helpful, particularly the young women who manned Reception. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, with all mod cons and a small balcony overlooking the Place de la Gare. Quite extensive and very nice food was provided for breakfasts, in a very pleasant breakfast room. Location is within easy walking distance of most attractions.

We would love to revisit the quaint and beautiful city of Strasbourg and our home away from home, Le Grand Hotel.

Room Tip: When booking at Le Grand Hotel, ask for a room on the 4th, 5th, or 6th floor, which overlooks the Pl...

Once we walked out from the gare, and saw our hotel just a place across, we were so glad that we didn't have to drag our luggage long! The public area was kind of chic and in design, and the reception were friendly. The miracle happened when we stepped into the room and found the window open. Why? Because there was no air-conditioning in my room! I am not quite used to staying in a hotel room without A/C. I should have read the introduction in details. We needed a key to open the fridge(mini-bar) and there was no safety box in my room. Later , we walked to the Ile Grand, where most hot spots in Strasbourg were in. It was not a short distance and took more than 20 minutes to get to Notre Dame or a supermarche. (Department stores:15mins ). The breakfast, included in the room fee, was great. Overall, the price was compatible with its value .

Room Tip: Read the introduction in details before choosing the type of your room.

We spent a weekend here and found it to be a clean, convenient location close to the station. We were able to drop our luggage off when we arrived, and also they stored it all day on our departure day. It was great to be able to walk around unencumbered by suitcases!
The staff was friendly and helpful, but there was no one on duty in the lobby bar. Our cocktail requests mystified the desk clerk, who gamely tried to produce our order.
It was a pleasant walk to see the town.

We spent 3 nights in a minute airless room (301). Sleep was difficult as the weather was warm and the fan noisy. Convenient location but we won't stay there again. The most expensive room we had in 9 weeks in Europe!

Room Tip: Choose an airconditioned room.

An adequate hotel that is very well located if travelling by train. Had a nice room, large and in good decorative order with comfortable beds and functional air con. No tea/coffee making equipment which should be provided for the price (book on line and beware of the standard room price). Wi Fi worked fine. Adequate breakfast with the possibility to sit outside on a good day. Friendly front desk staff. No complaints but with a few little touches here and there could be better with more charm.

Opposite station. Comfortable, clean room with a very complete bathroom including the world's noisiest flush. Very good breakfast. Very solid overall accommodation.
