“Great food, great service, great ambience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

I agree 100% with reviewer Imdja - both about French cuisine in general and this restaurant in particular. We happened across it as we were strolling towards the cathedral on our first evening in Strasbourg; the Place du Marche Gayot is a charming little square with several restaurants and bars. We took our time looking at all the different menus before deciding; no-one hassled us and when we eventually chose this one the waiter found us a lovely table outside (though it was a Saturday evening in August and quite busy) and immediately brought some water for our dog. The service was efficient and very friendly - both the waiters we had were able to converse with us in French (jokingly rude about my French pronunciation!), German and English - with even a little Itallian lesson thrown in for good measure!
The food we had was delicious; salmon steak with girolle mushroom sauce and ribs in honey and rosemary were both fabulous. The best meal we have had in France - on that holiday or any other! We had a wonderful evening - it is definitely worth seeking out this little gem of a restaurant. Slightly off the tourist trail but a world away from the 'Tourist trap' restaurant we experienced the following day in Petitie France... but that's another story (or another review.)
Vive La Table Du Gayot!

“The best meal we had in France”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

After two weeks in Paris we were seriously disappointed in French cuisine, supposed to be the best in the world. In Strasbourg we finally found the delicious food we'd been looking for. La Table du Gayot is tucked away in a courtyard that we found by accident. The waiters were friendly and helpful and the food outstanding. I highly recommend the ribs in honey and rosemary. It is at 8 Place du Marché Gayot.

“Hard to find little gem serves local cuisine with a twist”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

Once we found the quiet courtyard behind the cathedral, we were delighted to try this little gem of a restaurant. The restaurant is very small indoors but with an outside area which would be wonderful in better weather (we had rain). We all had inventive salads. Mine was Pot au Feu which was a kind of stew on top of a salad. It sounds odd but it was wonderful. The pot au feu was perfectly seasoned with a little vinegar and mustard tang. The host was also charming. A great experience!

“Great Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2011

Small restaurant in a courtyard at the rear of the Cathedral, so just a few yards off the beaten track. Wonderful food at reasonable prices. A real `find'

“What a gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2011

We found this small restaurant tucked away in an enclosed courtyard, just steps from the Cathedral. There are a few other small restaurants in the courtyard as well, and they all have alfresco dining.
This one has a small and cozy indoor dining room as well.
The food is fantastic. Portions are large, and prices are reasonable. They have a great selection of regional wines by the carafe.
Clientele is mostly local.
Reservations and on time arrival a must.
Had we found this gem earlier in the trip, we would certainly have made more reservations.
