“Slightly underwhelming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Location is good (right in the centre of Strasbourg), service was good overall and beds are extremely comfortable.
However, there were a few odd detail issues in the room we stayed in (a Superior room).
If the shower fitting was turned so that it was straight out of the wall (into the bath, where one would expect to have a shower), the showerhead would slide straight down to the bottom- one would either have to shower crouched in the bottom of the bath, or angle the fitting so that the water was spraying against the wall.
The desk lamp had a powerpoint built into it, which was a good idea. However, if you turned off the lights at night, this would also switch off the powerpoint in the lamp, meaning that nothing would charge (to keep the powerpoint on, a wall light in the bedroom would also have to stay on).
The housekeeping staff appeared to have forgotten things in the room while cleaning on both nights of our stay (a bag of linen, and a cloth next to the basin).
The Bose sound system had no 'Lightning' connector for newer Apple devices, and didn't seem to pick up radio stations very well- it looked like the external FM antenna was perhaps not connected? The TV also occasionally switched itself on randomly (possibly responding to the Bose remote?).
As a result, while the room was certainly OK, there are probably better places to stay in Strasbourg.

Worst hotel we have ever stayed at in terms of customer service. We accidentally left our Ipad, plus a few other odds and ends in a bag in our room. Upon returning home and realizing they were missing, we immediately called the hotel. They confirmed they had the Ipad and the bag, and agreed to post it to us. A week went by without word. When we called them again, we were told the concierge was out of the office for the week and so the package wasn't sent. We had to call back several times over several days to finally get in touch with him. I find it hard to believe that a FIVE star hotel has no one else capable of posting a package. But worse yet, when the package was finally sent several days later, it arrived, WITHOUT the Ipad. Despite having no visible puncture or opening marks on the box, the hotel has refused to address the issue, and instead has directed us towards the shipping company --- a second-rate shipping company that doesn't even have a phone line.

It's not clear who is responsible, but it is clear that Sofitel's Strasbourg hotel is a five-star hotel ONLY when it comes to price. If you are looking for a hotel that provides prompt, reliable, quality, and honest service, go elsewhere.

Dear Naomi S,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
I am really sorry about the issue you faced after your stay at Sofitel Strasbourg Grande Ile. Our concierge clefs d’or is joining me to apologize on this unusual event and would like to assure you that he did send you the complete package of your forgotten items including the iPad.
As you already discussed with our General Manager, Jean-Philippe Kern, we have sent your belongings via CHRONOPOST International, the most reliable french shipping Cie and we cannot be responsible for something that obviously happened after the package left our premises. Indeed, as you signaled with pictures in your email exchanges with our General Manager, the package that you signed off at delivery arrived with two different types of tape instead of just the one we use…
We are really sorry that you lost this gift that also had an emotional value for you and advise you to seriously bring this matter further with the shipping company.

With kind and devoted regards

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in a family suite. The room as usual for a Sofitel hotel was immaculately clean, beds were lovely and soft. The only complaint I would have of this hotel is that there was a charge of an extra 20 euros to watch English language programmes on television. As we were staying with our 2 children they just wanted to watch some cartoons etc before going out to dinner however the only thing that was in English was the news. It was also situated next to a construction site and we were awoken on Friday morning by the emptying of bins at about 7 am and then the construction machines tearing down a building at 8am, thank goodness they don't work weekends! I suppose once the building next door is completed then you wouldn't get the noise!
The hotel had a fabulous bar ( although quite pricey) and I would suggest going out to the numerous cafés for breakfast and coffee rather than eat in the hotel.
It's a brilliant location for the central of Strasbourg and within walking distance of the multitudes of shops, cathedral and at this time of year the Christmas markets.
I would go back again but will wait until the building next door has been finished!

Great location, just minutes from the Cathedral and Gutenberg square. We reserved a junior suite, which was reasonably priced and provided a little extra room. Room was well appointed, but not exceptional. Very clean. Nice lobby. For breakfast, we did not use the buffet, which was a mistake. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The Sofitel is located conveniently in the old town of Strasbourg. We reserved a suite in order to fit a baby cot. The suite was the smallest suite I had ever stayed at and was over $300 a night. The staff forgot to place the baby cot in the room and then seemed to expect a tip when they brought it. Our view was of a brick wall. Room service was good. I was disappointed when our room was not ready at 1500 after a long train ride with a baby, and then to find our baby cot was not there. Breakfast was good, but not included in the room rate. At least internet was included. Not bad, but we paid a lot for what we got.

Room Tip: Suites are smaller than you think.

Hotel is located in the old town very convenient for sightseeing in the area. Great pedestrian area. Attractions and restaurants within short walk. Parking available on site for a fee. Our Reservation (booked and paid 6 mo in advance) was for 2 rooms, when we arrived the receptionist stated they were fully booked. Our rooms were on different floors. Clean rooms were small. Nice bathroom. Great housekeeping staff. Concierge service was limited. Overall I would probably stay here again.

Awesome location within easy walking distance of everything in Strasbourg, wonderfully comfy, clean and quiet room (equals great night's sleep) and very friendly/helpful staff. The price wasn't spectacular, but compared to other places in Strasbourg - that seem considerably less nice - I think it was quite reasonable.
