I pleasurable non-budget hotel to stay at in the centre of Strasbourg. Quiet rooms, although absolutely no view or opportunity to open the windows due to aircon fans just outside. However that is a small point, VERY comfortable beds and a reasonable breakfast spread.
Very helpful staff who make you feel welcome and that no task is too small.

Positive things - great location in the centre of Strasbourg, yet very quiet. The staff is friendly. The lobby and the bar are beautiful, very luxurious, so this kind of creates an expectation for the rooms. As to the room where I stayed - bedding is of good quality and the bed is comfortable. The Bose i-Pod holder/player is a nice extra. TV is modern and good. In general the room is clean.

Apparently there are rooms that are renovated and rooms that are not. I happened to stay in a room that was not renovated. The room was tiny. There was hardly any place to put the suitcase. Wallpaper was peeling off and the room needs modernisation/renovation. The room where I stayed was very far away from the elevator, not a problem for me but if someone has mobility issue, ask for a room closer by. The window was tiny with an ugly view so the room was quite dark. At least the backdoor view had the advantage that it was very quiet.

I did not eat breakfast at the hotel; it was too expensive and there are many nice coffee-shops just around the corner. There was no coffee or tea making facility in the room, only complimentary mineral water in the room. As to the praised Hèrmes toiletries - if it did not have the name Hermès on it, I would not have known the difference, to me it looked usual bad quality hotel toiletries. Hermès shop is just around the corner from the hotel as many other shops.

All in all - it is functional and you sleep there well but for this price and this kind of a luxurious hotel I would have expected more.

Dear kukekomm,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to share this comment with us. Your remarks are very valuable to us and enable us to keep improving our quality of service to you.

I duly noted your comments on the room style. Indeed, we currently have two different decoration styles in our rooms: modern and neo-classical. During the reservation, our Agents are at your disposal to guide you through the choice of the room category, view or size.

I also took note of your remark regarding the breakfast cost, which I submitted to our Food & Beverage Manager. As for the courtesy tray, it is available only from the Luxury category, but will soon be extended to the Superior category. However, you can permanently ask our teams for anything that might improve your comfort.

For a future reservation, do not hesitate to contact me directly per email at h0568-gr@sofitel.com for any query you might have.

Best regards,
Betty Sberro

You do get the Sofitel staff experience here, at this modern city centre hotel. We were looked after well by extremely helpful staff, both on arrival and when we had issues with the safe - twice.
We'd recommend this Sofitel for a city break - we had two days in this interesting city. You can walk everywhere from here, and catch the tram to see the European parliament buildings. There is plenty to see, and Strasbourg is a most attractive city.
Car parking is handy, but is valet parking only. Breakfast is expensive so we took breakfasts at a local cafe. Restaurant is pretty basic in evening, but OK. We ate there one night, and had booked a brilliant restaurant the second, Les Salles Gosses. Room clean, nice bed, plenty of room. Some hotel re-decoration would push the experience up a rung.
Overall, a pleasant experience though, eating out.

I stay regularly in this hotel and the service is good, the beds are extremely confortable and if you get one of the renovated rooms they are nicely designed. The breakfast is good but very expensive and the breakfast lady is a bit over-the-top. Be aware though that availability next year (2013) will be less since they will do some renovations.

this is a good hotel in a very good location. The hotel is just outside the old city. If you are a tourist (as we were) and want to spend your time in the traffic free old city, but arrived in a car and want to be able to park it , this is your place. The hotel has its own parking, under the building and the cost is reasonable (22 euros a day) and there is street parking around it, which is free overnight. (until 9am.).
We stayed in a "superior room", which was comfortable with a separate working area, free wi-fi and all the usual amenities, plus an espresso coffee machine.
Everything works and is spotlessly clean.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, the concierge knows everything and will gladly share it with you.
the problems :
-breakfast is outrageously expensive, 24 euros per person. Just walk out of the door for 5 minutes and you can have it for less then a third of the price.
-the better rooms don't have any views, least of all of the cathedral . Rooms can be quite far from the lift and if you have mobility problems make sure you request one near the lift.

The hotel's location is excellent. Close enough to everything but not in the middle of the crowds. The service from the staff was faultless. Prior to our stay we received an email from the hotel as a 'pre' welcome. They reserved a table for us at the Gavroche restaurant after asking if there was anything they could do for us prior to our arrival. On arrival the staff seemed to be expecting us and during our two day stay they remembered our names - nice touch for a very large hotel. We had one of their main suites and it looked as if it had hardly been slept in, it was spotless. The beds were very comfortable and if the weather had been better we would have spent some time on the balcony. We didn't eat in the hotel as the restaurant was closed Saturday lunchtime when we had planned to try it out - my only gripe. The manager, however, recommended a restaurant for us and arranged a taxi as it was late afternoon and close to last orders! Once again, excellent service. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in Strasbourg. I have never experienced a Sofitel before, but after this stay would certainly stay in one again.
