When you visit Colmar, it is always enjoyable to have your meal served out in the open air. The atmosphere in this part of Colmar off the ancient Douane is one where you want to eat out in the open. The Brassarie des Tanneurs offered traditional Alsatian dishes, which is what we wanted. It has always been my contention that when you go somewhere different you want to try their regional dishes rather than expect them to deliver American food fixed the American way, with American tastes. If that is what you want, you will be disappointed. If you want pizza, go to Pizza Hut or its equivalent. If you go wanting Alsatian food, then you will find this brasserie a very good place to eat. The portions were very generous. The atmosphere was enhanced by the liveliness of the Ancien Douane (nearby local square) and the local musicians who were performing. It was like stepping back into old Alsace. On some Tuesday evenings, there are locals who dress up in traditional Alsatian costumes and do the old dances.
With their wide selection of local dishes, you could have many taste experiences. Yes, they also have pizza if that is what you want. This is wine and beer country. When you dine hear, you also have a good selection of local wine, beer and other beverages. We even enjoyed an "Alsace Cola" while dining here.
