An interesting place this one! Firstly the whole proper Chinese menu is in English, so a big thank you for that, I really mean it. But be careful they will most likely try to give you the 'old school' sweet and sour menu first if you are non Chinese! There is loads of choice and loads of dishes you have never tried before, so why not go for something a bit crazy? My wife normally reins me in from something too out there, but I love trying different foods the world over - hell is meat and two veg!
The cooking and ingredients are good, but not outstanding. I had a mixed seafood and meat casserole dish and some Chinese veg in garlic. Both were very good indeed with a bold unrefined almost home cooked feel to them - lots of seafood - at an expected price. Plus they have live seafood in tanks - so get the ginger and spring onion crab if it's your thing! So all’s good right?
Well not really - the beer is warm, the service is cold and the decor is drab in the extreme! It's just so bad - like how a restaurant under a communist regime might look. If it was totally full with Chinese diners and tough looking locals (Salford hard nuts seem to love good Chinese, go figure, maybe their 'business associates' introduced them to it?!) it would have a rough and ready charm, but when I go it is always empty.
In closing - a great selection of food in one of the worst dining rooms in the city.
