“best curry house EVER”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

We had ben waiting to have this meal for months, and when we came to it we were not disappointed, in fact the food was excellent quality and the service kind and very helpful. The menu was easy to understand and varied.

We had a King Prawn dish and a Chicken dish, both excellent cooked to perfection, and the flavouring was so delicate and not over powering.

The rice and Nana were good as well, the right amounts and the Nana was not doughy and cooked to perfection.

Many of the people in there seemed to be regulars and speaking to the couple next to us went once a month at least, and recommended many of the items on the menu.

We decided on the night that we would be going again, as we have seen it is part of the HighLife scheme, this is going to become a regular venue.

“Rubbish!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

Too much sugar in all the food-even the spicy dishes and awful dry naan bread. Poor quality produce (used sliced chicken pieces in curry instead of chunks) Very dissapointing.

Friendly service though.

“Poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012 via mobile

We went for a meal at the ghurka grill using a voucher purchased on living social. Beware if you are planning on redeeming a similar voucher as the manager of this venue spoilt our fathers day experience by arguing us for ten minutes before our food came: we asked if instead of the glass of wine included in the deal if we could have a diet coke - thinking this would be no problem since coke is cheaper than wine right? Wrong! We asked if instead of the two onion bhajis we could have a small plate of chips for our son? Both requests resulted in an almost full on argument with the manager (who initially pretended not to be the manager) going on and on about how living social take 30 % of his takings and how onion bhajis are dirt cheap to make and so even though we said we didn't like them he couldn't give chips instead as he would be making a loss. We pointed out that the reasons busineSses presumably get involved with living social is to attract new customers and that we were an eg of this and we would come back if we had a giid experience. As it was we brought our children who weren't included in the deal and spent £26 more on top of initial voucher deal. Throughout the meal the grumpy nepalese equivalent of scrooge kept making references to how wed got two extra pieces of chicken tikka (yes two tiny pieces of chicken) and generally being ridiculously petty. The icing on the cake came when we got billed more than we expected as a result of being charged for a meal that should have come under the initial deal. When we left the scrooge like manager could not bring himself to even bid us goodbye which sealed his fate in terms of this review. The only positive I could say about the place was that the waiters and waitress were lovely - you have to feel sorry for them working for such a mean and clearly grunmpy old man. We certainly won't be going back to this unaccommodating place and my comment to the manager would be to get a reality check - there's a recession out there - you can't afford to be so arrogant and your scriige like behaviour has to be the biggest appetite killer going.

“Nepalese Cuisine at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012 via mobile

When it comes to great restaurants, we are spoiled for choice in West Didsbury. However we have been coming the Gurkha at least once or twice a fortnight for the last few years for two main reasons:

The food and drink is outstanding - you've got your classic dishes such as the chicken karahi and more unique dishes such as the prawn sandheko and chicken sangrila. It is such a contrast to the oily curries so prevalent in a lot of places. They have a great selection of wine and beer and the prosecco is one of the best I've tasted.

The service is second to none - Raj and Neil treat their customers as friends, nothing is too much trouble and the team there bend over backwards to ensure your happiness. We recently held my husbands birthday meal in their function room upstairs and they laid an absolute feast including lamb on the bone and paneer shashlik for the veggies.
