What a disappointment!
After visiting here after they had opened I was hopeful and curious. At the end I'm sorry I bothered.
May I begin by going against the "over service" trend that should have died when it began in the 80s? I will tell you if something is wrong (and I did). Stop asking me!
we ordered two, two course lunch menus. On three different occasions the waitress tried to offer us things which were not included. Either have an inclusive menu or don't, but stop trying to shove things in my face. It creates a weird atmosphere as you have to turn things down all the time.
We also ordered a glass of Pinot and a glass of Rose'. The glass of Rose' was terrible. It must have been open for a week in a fridge and had gone completely flat. Embarrassing that a restaurant with high self perception serves this. Without waiting for the waitress to ask if "everything's ok?" I switched it.
That should have been the first clue of things to come. Started with soup and a pate - both were nice. Later, the burger bun came with cheese and "relish", which apparently, in England, is a type of condiment. I asked to be served without any of those, but giving this could have been a language misunderstanding I just kept eating. The meet was mediocre and a bit over cooked. The fries/chips however were terrible. I actually asked the waitress if they were double fried. She replied "I don't think so" (very professional answer), and I sent the plate back.
Needless to say that such an event would call for the manager coming to ask about it. No such thing happened. However, he was nice enough to discount me 3 pounds for not eating the main course. 3 pounds? that's right! I paid for a one course meal, which costs much more than the soup alone. I think it would have been appropriate, at minimum, to just charge for the soup.
When the waitress came to sweep the card, I decided to tell the manager about my discontent so I told the waitress: "you know what? I'd like to speak to the manager before I pay" and she said: "sure". Except for the part where she didn't think that she should call him right away. After 10 minutes we gave up, paid and left to never come back.
One more thing about the urinals: they are buckets. Really. Disgusting.
