Used to be an iconic place to eat in the City and as I haven't been there for a few years was somewhere I relished returning to... what a let down. No specials menu now just a sparse a la carte. Starters were uninspiring and bland, I struggled to make a choice. I opted for king prawns, after this is a fish emporium so they should be plump good and fresh? The only dish was a spiced cocktail, so I got a standard prawn cocktail with shreed lettuce drowned in a very cloyed slightly spiced up marie rose. I had to ask for bread to accopmany this dish and was given a couple of slices of an indistinguishable white .
Determined to bring back happy memories I reated myself to lobster thermidor served with thin fries. It was a mini lobster and just about average, if only it had been swimming in the same volume of sauce as the prawns at least I would have enjoyed some moisture with my medium cut oven chips, dry and most definitley not homemade. Ever the optimist I opted to finish with cheese. I had to select two and picked cheddar and stilton, this from I think a total of five, felt like i was shopping in a Tesco Extra? the two paltry triangles came with a tasteless little pot of some stringy onion mix and dried coated nuts of some sort and four dry oat crackers, no fruits or butter. It was an insult at the end of the meal. It was an expensive trip down memory lane and not one I will be making again. What a pity.
