“Relive your youth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

This is pub for past and present students, full of nostalgia.

The Salutation is a traditional pub hidden behind the university buildings on Oxford Road.

Good range of beer. Food menu typical but with a hint of those far off days when you were a student.

Try the bowl of chips if you're in a hurry. Always welcome on a cold winters evening or sitting in the beer garden in the summer.

A must for all age groups.

Been waiting for an hour and 20 minutes for fish and chips, still waiting for it now, I could have caught the fish myself, gutted it, cooked it, grown the potatoes, chopped and oven cooked them and still had time for a nap. Can't believe this is happening right now. The food is alright at a push, never coming here again. We asked for free drinks as compensation and they brought one over between three of us, no one else in the pub has ordered food except for the people I am with. Considering chewing on the leather of the seats.

Pub now owned by MMU. Came with friends for lunch. We ordered at 1pm and our last plate of food has just arrived nearly an hour and a half later. Pub isn't even full of people and the food was mediocre to say the least.

To comment on service: there was none. Staff were rude and seemed rushed off their feet even when it is a relatively quiet afternoon.

Payed by using our student cards using grant money from the university. So glad I didn't waste any of my own REAL money.

Won't be visiting again, sorry to say MMU has wasted their money on this £250,000 refurbishment unless MAJOR improvements are made.

If you're after reasonable pub food, Wetherspoons wins hands down over this place.

Love this pub it's actually a hidden gem! Such a relaxing charming place to just chill with a pint of real ale. We also had an excellent meal. Brilliant pizza at a brilliant price. Without fail we will be visiting again and would recommend it to others.

Myself and prospective student son arrived here hours later than expected, after a very long and arduous journey from Brighton. We were welcomed with smiles and greetings from the two young women working in the bar there.
Being in need of refreshing beverages we were informed that as a guest we were entitled to 10% off all food and drinks! We were shown to our room, a twin quite small yet very clean. There was everything there for a night's stay ensuite shower etc. and tea and coffee making facilitiesand very convenient after a couple of beers downstairs in the pub. Although breakfast was not available the 'girls' provided us with a homemade flapjack and an apple to fill a hole till breakfast elsewhere.
This place is ideal for students and parent visiting MMU as it is literally on the campus and near every building.
The cost is low and accomodation good value and is within easy reach of Manchester city centre and China town. The atmosphere in the pub is welcoming and friendly and for us nothing was too much trouble.
We would definitely stay there again!
The only drawback was parking but even that was surmountable as there are carparks within 5/10 mins walk away andit is free on the street outside after 6pm until 8 am with an extention of 2 hours in certain areas.
