My wife and I booked this Sunday night spa break at a cost of £124 each. This included a panoramic double room, breakfast, dinner and 1 spa treatment each. We stayed there on Sunday 30.09.12.
The hotel itself is located close to Piccadilly train station in the centre of Manchester. It has a residents car park to the rear of the hotel. On arrival we found the hotel but had to drive round the block to try and locate the car park. We later found out the sat nav had to be programmed for the car park and not the hotel. Abit daft really.
The car park cost £15 for an over night stay. Very pricey we thought.
We stayed in Room 701, on the seventh floor. It was on the corner with fantastic views from the large windows all around the room. The room was lovely and the ensuite had a separate shower and bath. Very clean and nice. Bathrobes and slippers in room. Also big flat screen tv and all mod cons. Very nice.
The evening meal was to be taken in the scottish steak club restaurant.
We found out when we sat down at our table that there was an allowance of £16.50 a head for the meal. A rib eye cost £19. So having had a couple of glasses of wine, the extra's ran out at £48. Which was abit of a shock really as we only had 2 courses.
The food was average. Pate for me to start, it was okay. I had the rib eye steak for main, nothing special with some garlic butter. It arrived with a mushroom, half a tomato, and a few greasy chips. I had ordered a selection of green veg and onion rings extra. All these came in at £3.25 each including the smidgon of garlic butter to my horror.
My wife had the fish cakes which she said were good. Followed by the gammon. Again was good.
After the meal we had a couple of drinks in the bar which is located near the front lobby. It was open, cold, from the wind whistling through the main lobby door and lacked atmosphere.
The drinks two 'single' vodka's and coke cost £11.25 so be warned.
We had a great nights sleep and enjoyed the sunlight coming in through the windows on the morning. This was the highlight of our stay really. The room was great.
Breakfast was again served in the restaurant we ate our dinner in. It was buffet style. The waitresses who served the tea, coffee and toast were pretty useless really and had to be asked each time you wanted tea or coffee. Breakfast was okay and nothing special really.
We had been booked in for a male and female facials in the Spa. It is located in another building adjacent to the main hotel. To access the spa you had to go to the first floor, then find the lift beside room 104 and go down to the mezzanine. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful.
We had to fill in the survey cards first and then were told where everything was located in the spa, rather than been shown around. The spa was not busy and we thought they could have been able to do this. Especially when the changing rooms, sauna, steam bath etc are on the next floor down. Again we had to get the lift or use the stairs.
We were given bathrobes, slippers and a towel. They were grubby and washed out. The towel especially was like a tea towel. Horrible.
Not what you would expect from a so called luxury spa.
We went in the lift down, changed and returned back up in the lift to have our treatment. Not ideal.
The facials were taken together in a double room. This was very nice and we both would recommend these.
After we decided we would enjoy the sauna and steam bath. We had to get the lift back down again, go throught the changing rooms to where the sauna etc where located.
At £60 each for a hours treatment which was very nice we felt the spa was badly located and set out. This spoilt the experience somewhat especially as this was our wedding anniversairy.
Stay on the high floors as the train platforms overlook the rooms. Not sure if they can see in but y...
