“Perfect stay for football weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

We stayed here during a football weekend. This was our first stay at this hotel, and we were positively surprised. The location is great, close to shopping and dining areas. The staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious with nice bathrooms and good beds. Breakfast was nice with omelette served at your choice. The room rate was also very affordable.

We will definately stay at this hotel the next time we go to Manchester

We have stayed many times when the hotel was the Ramanda chain and always found it very good for city stays. I must say it's now even better. One thing though the breakfast plates were cold I like a hot plate to put food on to. Good choice of breakfast, the Staff very good and helpfull. I will still use this hotel for Manchester stay.

Room Tip: Ask for High Floor over looking Piccadilly. Also less noise

Stayed here in February after a Jason Manford stand up at the Apollo. Although we live only twenty minutes out of Manchester we wanted a night out, something different. Therefore we decided to book a room here for the night. How impressed we were! The price is brilliant for what you get, which is a great central location, clean and modern hotel and a great view of Piccadilly gardens. We have even made plans to come stay here couple of times a year for a night away from home!

Stayed or just one night. The hotel is very central and has easy access to all the shops, galleries, pubs and clubs etc. and not far from the trams and railway station too.

I booked the room at the last minute and checked very carefully on line about facilities. We were driving into Manchester and booked this hotel for its location and the fact that it said there was parking available.

The reception staff were very friendly, but I was a little annoyed when she said that there would be a charge of £15.00 for parking my car. I did say that it needs to be clearer on the websites as it doesn't stipulate a charge at all which is misleading and this was one of the reasons for booking his hotel.

The room was adequate, the bed comfortable, bathroom was clean, but a bit tired.

We did however have a very disturbed night, as our neighbouring guests were extremely noisy, so the sound proofing in the rooms is not great.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review. I was pleased to hear that you found our central location spot on in terms of easy access to all that Manchester has to offer.

As a City Centre Hotel we are extremely lucky to have our own on site car park which is secure and as you know is only steps away from our front door. A charge has always been in operation at the hotel and we do publicise this on the Hotel's website, the Mercure website, as well as third party websites that we have control over.

I was sorry to hear that you were disturbed by noise transfer during your time with us. We are aware that this can be an issue in some of our bedrooms and we are currently looking at ways to improve this.

Many thanks for your feedback and I do hope that on a future visit to the City, you may consider staying with us again.

Kind regards
David Daly

We paid £130 for a standard on a Friday and £165 for the Saturday - then they charged me £30 to park at the hotel. Two nights = £325. It included breakfast but be warned, Elf & Safety must have been there coz they serve it lukewarm so you don't burn your mouth. Room wasn't too bad but alot of traffic noise and when someone on the same floor closes their door you will be woken.
Won'y bother with this place again. Bar prices are steep, they must think this is a 5 star London hotel! Last point, the lifts are very fast between floors - sadly only when you have waited an absolute age for one in the first place!

Room Tip: Get a room at the opposite end to Portland Street

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review. I was disappointed to hear that we failed to meet your expectations on this occasion, so much so that you'd be reluctant to stay with us again.

As with any hotel group, the rates strategies that are put in place are based on supply and demand. As such, dependant on how busy the City is or indeed the hotel, this will have a bearing on room rates.

As a City Centre hotel, we are extremely lucky to have our own on site car park which as you know is only steps away from our front door. A charge has always been in operation and when you compare our price of £15.00 per overnight stay, against car parks in our immediate vicinity who charge £22-£24 per overnight stay, then we believe we compare favourably.

I do apologise for the delays that you experienced when waiting for a lift. When the Hotel is extremely busy I am aware that at peak times pressure can be placed on the lifts and this can sometimes cause problems in terms of people moving around the building as easily as they would normally do. There are, however, fire exit stairs at the side of the main lifts which access all the floors within the hotel, which guests are more than welcome to use. I am sorry if this was not communicated to you at the time.

Although I appreciate your disappointment on this occasion, I do hope sometime in the future you may give us another opportunity to welcome you back.

Kind regards
David Daly

I have been staying at the Mercure for 4 weeks on business. I've found the hotel very clean and well kept. All areas look smart as do the staff.
The location is central so perfect for sightseeing too.
The food is very nice however a little lacking on choice on more simple bar meals. As there's only so many rich meals one person can eat in 4 weeks.
The buffet breakfast was amazing with views over Piccadilly gardens.
My rooms in general were spacious and very clean, complete with ironing board etc comfortable beds, I'd ask for a corner room next time as these had sofas and nice views. At little cold perhaps but the staff were happy to bring me another duvet.
The staff were great, happy, friendly and professional. Joanna on reception was fantastic, any issue she was straight on it and her knowledge of the area was very helpful too. Big thank you for making my stay comfortable.

Stayed four weeks in this hotel for training and found the staff, the service, the breakfast and the location excellent. The rooms are clean and good for one person. During football the staff made sure those on business were allocated quiet rooms (on different floors). Enjoyed my stay and looking forward to returning in two weeks time.
