When arriving we were greeted by two young lads who seemed to be very welcoming and friendly. After waiting for a few minutes as they couldn't find our booking we were shown to our room. Our room was very small and basic (nothing like the pictures show) When we went in it was freezing cold, we cranked the radiator up to full and nothing happened. I then felt a draft and went to the window. This is when I noticed a gap nearly an inch wide where the window wouldn't close. Bearing in mind we were there in January this was not acceptable!! We went to see the manager and he explained to us that all the rooms were taken so he couldn't move us. He told us he would tape it up and get us a spare heater whilst we went to Old Trafford for the match.
When we came back I saw him in the reception, I asked if he'd found a heater and he said 'no, but you should find your room is lovely and toastie now, any problems come back and see me' We went upstairs and found our room like ice again. The window had not been taped up and he had turned the radiator OFF!! Fuming, we went downstairs to find that he had closed up the reception and left the building. After nearly half an hour he returned and gave us a plug in heater, the plug was cracked and look extremely dangerous. We told him the radiator needed bleeding and he said he would need to get a plumber (why?!?!?) My partner asked for money back at which point he laughed and said 'I don't think you'll be getting any money back'
We gave the room a temporary fix by wedging a towel in the window in the hope of keeping the cold out. This was when we had more problems! I went to use the shared bathroom to find the door doesn't lock. The bath was filthy and covered in pubes. The were poo stains on the toilet and the hand towel was filthy. This can't be blamed on other guests at no guests were using our bathroom!
In the morning we went for our continental breakfast. It was pretty basic but ok. The second morning we went for the breakfast again to find no milk, mouldy fruit, only the ends of bread and not much else. There was no point complaining as the man in charge clearly couldn't care less and was too busy entertaining his mates that were coming in and out all day.
I am a mother of two young children and rarely get time to myself. This was supposed to be a lovely, romantic trip for me and my partner to have a bit of us time and this hotel put a massive downer on it!
Needless to say, we will NEVER go there again! Please see our photos as proof!!!

Hendham house staff and all our domestic cleaners do a fantastic job of keeping all our customers happy .They work hard in the back ground to supply clean fresh tidy beds and towels and put a lot of love and hard work into there jobs overall hendham house is a beautiful and relaxing place with very high standards at a price affordable to the budgets of normal working people . our photos of all our rooms are genuine and yes we do have the odd cracked tile and stickey lock and drafty window which are on our next working day maintainance list.overall hendham house will always be a beautiful well run hotel and we have lots of satified customers i fnd the photos and reweiw to be presented in a very damaging and negative way and an insult to the hard working staff at hendham house am quite sure if you look hard enough in dark corners you will find fault anywhere and i have noticed there are a lot of decent hotels through out trip adviser who suffer from people with phones trying to make good look bad. well let me tell you Hendham house will always be a beautiful victorian mansion to anyone reading the reveiw above .look at all our rooms and hallways and lounges make up your own minds our team will make sure you have a nice stayin manchester hope to see you all in the future Dominic
