“Small, but perfectly formed. Splendid, and highly recommended.”
This is a quite splendid find indeed, situated on a corner on Upper Brook Street in between a Subway and Microdirect and about a mile from the city centre. This is a small but perfectly formed Korean cafe (which also serves Japanese dishes). Apparently very busy during the day in term time, I've been a couple of times recently for a wonderful lunch. I cannot recommend this place enough. A small cafe fitting a maximum of 30 covers (and around 20+ comfortably), just stepping inside into a little but lovingly crafted (and air conditioned) little space is a pleasure indeed. Sitting here today I could see a small serenity Buddha, Klimt prints, cherry blossom prints, paper orchids, and a lovely uneven pebbled floor, with simplistic tables, benches, and chairs.
The service and fare here are simply fab. Beautifully cooked and presented dishes, in this little oasis of calm (out of term time...). The jeon, a Korean pancake, is quite fabulous, and the katsu tofu is off the scale, simply delicious, and looking almost like a couple of slices of cake in its presentation. The rolls I had as a side today were also excellent, as are the three small dishes of gratis nibbles presented before every meal (superb kimchi, small soybeans in lovely sauce, and cucumber). They also serve quite excellent home made ice-cream in lemon, green tea, coffee, plum, cinnamon, and ginger flavours. Today I had cinnamon, and I hereby pledge to make my way through the rest of the home made ice-cream menu! There is a great range of authentic food, drink and snacks available here, to eat in and take-away. Yesterday I drank Korean aloe vera soft drink for the first time, out of their fridge it was superbly refreshing. The menu is available to check out online via the Seoul Kimchi facebook page (no need to sign in). Splendid, and highly recommended!
