“A Hotel way above British standard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2009

The hotel is centrally located never the less it is quiet at night but just a few hundred yards hits night life and on4e can find lots of restaurants. The rooms are very modern and stylish and the service is very good. But the most outstanding point is how clean the rooms are. Due to all that the value one gets for the price is very good. The only weak point is the service at the bar which could be a little bit friendlier

Stayed at the Radisson Manchester for one evening on 31st may 2009. Excellent serive from reception staff, we arrived early so room not ready but no problems leaving luggage with conceirge. Excellent location meant retail therapy easily available.

Room still not available at 4pm, "servicing problem" sited as reason. Moved to alternative room without further delay. On arrival in room loud "air con" type noise from outside meant immediate return to reception where we recived apologies and accompanied to second room, which was superb and quiet. (Suggest light sleepers ask for room on GMex side of hotel - more likely to be quieter).

Liked the room very much, superb bed (2 singles togther, made as one double, meant stacks of room and comfort), en-suite with shower room and air con as standard. Usual TV, mini bar and tea making facilities.

Breakfast excellent following morning, superb choice and service. Lunch there later in day provided a very tough sirloin steak which was replaced without question and apologies received.

Amenities were very good, but due to our short stay were unable to use them all.

Best of all we liked the professionalism of staff, luxury standards and nothing we asked for was too much trouble. Some rooms can be noisy, so ask if you are a light sleeper.

Easy access to rail and bus services. Town centre and attractions a few minutes walk away.

Thank you for your very positive comments regarding your recent stay with us.

A point to note about your comments regarding the bed. The Double bed mattresses in all our rooms sit on a bed base which can fold. This may give the impression that it is two twin beds pushed together when infact they are not.

Booked this hotel a a surprise for my husband for our silver wedding and couldn`t have been happier with my choice . As a musician my husband used to play at the Free trade Hall and he was very interested to see the transformation into 5 star hotel. The general manager -Stephen Miles - gave us a fascinating book of the history of the FTH - which my husband really loved -and we were very impressed by the high quality and standard in the hotel .
All the staff were very friendly and helpful - we ate in the Opus One restaurant which was superb - the food was fantastic and there were a few little surprises given to us to celebrate our anniversary which we really appreciated .
The room was gorgeous and all fixtures and fittings were really beautiful .
All in all we had a brilliant night - we live in Manchester and this is a jewel - we will definitely be returning if only to eat in the Opus One.
Thanks to all at the hotel for a great stay

2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2009

I have stayed in this hotel once before, the first visit was excellent, the most recent just average.

Firstly the hotel is located perfectly, only minutes away from Selfridges and close to local amenities. The lobby is beautiful and most peaceful, a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Two restaurants are located on the ground floor, Alto and Opus one, closed on our visit (A Sunday).

The room is nice, if a little bland. The bathroom is a wetroom, which is a delight to use, and a bath that is always welcome. The toiletries are fixed to the wall, which whilst I realise is ‘green’ is almost Holiday Inn like. Tea and coffee making facilities are included but again for a five star hotel Typhoo and Nescafe are quite downmarket, shortbread, fresh milk and a better brand of coffee and tea should be included. The room was clean and an ample supply of towels provided.

Breakfast was included in my rate and was again a mixed bag. Waitress was friendly but distant. Coffee was provided and toast. The orange juice was not freshly squeezed and must have been from a carton, again not good enough for a five star establishment. There was a plentiful supply of hot food; sausages were of a good quality. What was quite disappointing was the selection of bread, rolls and croissants, just one variety of bread roll and those tiny bite sized croissants that I have seen in Holiday Inn/Travelodge ‘hotels’. If you are a five star hotel, food should be the best. I have stayed in many chains; Sofitel, Four Seasons etc and they all have a buffet breakfast, which is substantially better than what the Radisson offers, I felt short changed. And are the scrambled eggs powdered? They were vile.

The main reason for writing this review was to vent my anger about check in. Arrived at 11am, dropped off bags, not expecting a room until check in time of 2pm but the very friendly lady at the front desk checked, no room available, she would call me when there was one. No call by 2pm, thought she forgot so returned. Was told because they were fully booked last night there was still no room for us, ‘you can sit in the bar and wait if you like’ was the response, so off we did. Sat there for 45 minutes with no complimentary drink offered. Returned to reception asked how long the wait would be, was told fifteen minutes. Said I would return later. Returned at 3.30 to be told no room was available, was told to sit down and wait (again!), fifteen minutes passed and finally close to 4pm the room was ready. I told the receptionist I was unhappy, she said she would mention this to the manager, haven’t heard anything. Upon check out I was asked about my stay, I reminded them about the wait for a room, was told it was because we were fully booked. Surely a hotel should always be operating with the purpose of being fully booked, so it isn’t really an adequate excuse. Presented with bill, no deductions etc. Simply awful customer service and for a supposedly five star establishment! In understand that sometimes things are beyond their control and of getting a room was such a problem, the offer of a complimentary drink, upgrade, deduction off the bill would have sufficed and I’d of left happy. Instead, when passing the receptionist on the way out in the evening she simply said ‘was the wait worth it’. No it wasn’t!

I was quite happy for this to my base when visiting Manchester but I now have little reason to return, a shame.

My wife and I stay regularly in Manchester and we have stayed at many hotels, including the Midland Hotel, The Deansgate Hilton and Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza, trust me that the Radisson Edwardian beats them all by a mile ! The genuine friendliness and professiional service and attentiveness of all staff shines through from start to finish. We stayed on May 23rd for one night and it was an experience we can't wait to repeat, book this hotel and you will not be disappointed, forget the Deansgate Hilton or any other hotel in Manchester, most take your business for granted, the Radisson Edawardian genuinely appreciate your custom and all staff seriously enjoy making your stay a pleasure. We will be back very soon, can't wait!

Immediately made to feel welcome by the concierge and reception staff. Modern fixtures and fittings, clean and presentable. Lift to 9th floor eminently quick. Room immaculate with good air conditioning and facilities. Leisure club well equipped though the jacuzzi and steam room could have been warmer - again though, very clean. Bar staff went the extra mile, effortlessly, to ensure my son and I were served good food from the a la carte menu at 1145pm. Going back in July and December for MEN Arena concerts...

I recently stayed at this hotel with my two sons and one of their friends. We stayed for just one night after a gig at the manchester academy. It is a very nice hotel, we usually stay at the more traditional Midland hotel. The reception staff were excellent and helpful, however we found the restaurant staff at breakfast appeared quite unfriendly and had no warmth. We probably would consider coming back again but only for short overnight stays.
