“BYO Biscuit crumbs and MYO Bed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We booked in a hurry, a twin room for an overnight stay. On arrival we were allocated a Family room, which we thought would be generous for just the two of us. I had missed the rider on the website that a 'TWIN' is actually a double bed for the lucky traveller and a 'sofabed' for the loser of the coin toss.

Not impressed on entering the room to find a small couch under the window that was, apparently the second bed, with a trundle that was the third. The upholstery on the couch was very grubby and on moving it away from the wall we happened to pull out the trundle - we were horrified to find it half covered by a very grubby and well-worn mattress protector and a substantial scattering of toast or biscuit crumbs. The bathroom had that damp/musty/drainy odour and only one towel that was somewhere in size between a hand towel and a bath towel.

We asked reception to provide more towels and were told to collect them on our return from our night out. I demurred and asked that they be taken to the room for us and that at the same time they make up the sofa bed. I repeated that the booking had clearly been for TWIN beds. The response was that the Travelodge policy is not to make up the second bed but to provide the bedding for the customer to do so.

Checking in the cupboard we found one thin pillow, one sheet and a quilt. There was no undersheet or mattress protector to be placed between the grubby couch cushions and the sheet. As we proceeded to make the bed a length of used dental floss fell from the folds of the quilt. We were speechless.

My companion, being shorter than I am, offered to sleep on the 'second bed'. Anyone taller than 5'5" would not have been able to lay straight on it as not only was it very narrow but also quite short. I took the double bed which had a very worn mattress with a ridge down the middle.

Thankfully we slept well (apart from my snoring) and woke quite refreshed. The shower was very efficient with a good supply of hot water.

If staying again I would book one room per person, as long as the price allowed.

Room Tip: Be aware that there is only one useable bed in any room.

This was one of the cheapest place to stay in Manchester when I visited recently, it was selected due to its convenient location - easy to get to Piccadilly, anything central and the MEN etc. It was late at night when I arrived and there was someone manning the reception, check-in was pretty straight forward.

The corridor wasn't the smartest and started to fill me with dread as I have previously read negative reviews about travelodge's however I got to the room which, along with the bathroom was clean and smelt fresh, the only down side was that there was only one towel in the bathroom (with two of us staying) and two very small flimsy pillows on the bed. I returned to reception to request additional pillows and a towel, I was given a few towels however was told that because the hotel was at its full capacity there were no additional pillows - all of which had been collected when other guests had checked in during the after noon and was told we could get pillows the following morning.

All in all, room and bathroom clean and fresh, no air conditioning however a small heater if cold. Staff were plesant during the stay. shame that there aren't sufficient pillows to service a full hotel! it's a shame that only one towel and one floor towel were in the bathroom upon arrival - I would expect two having booked a double room!

However these are only minor things and would not discourage me from staying in a travelodge again - as long as its reasonably priced!

Room Tip: Ideal location and cheap price. just take your own pillow!

This is our 5 th vist to this travelodge and again nice stay.
Bedrooms are spotless they are basic but perfect for a stay in Manchester.
We asked to borrow a iron and ironing board and kept it for our whole stay .
Rooms have tea/ coffee facilities .
We only had 1 bath and 1 hand towel but quick vist to reception soon sorted and extra pillow given .
The hotel was very busy and we where not disturbed by any noise at all we had a side street room ,1 of our friends had front facing room and he did say traffic was a little noisey .
Carol the receptionist is a credit to this hotel and is always very helpfull but other staff seemed to be friendly and helpfull to .
Didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on food but it smelt ok .
Hotel very convient for shopping and getting around 15 mins stroll to shops .
The hotel ordered us taxi for our night out and it arrived prompt .
We will be back next year for our Annual vist to Manchester.

We stayed for just one night here, our third visit to this particular Travelodge in recent years.

The room was spotlessly clean with the usual facilities including flat screen television and tea and coffee making facilities. Extra pillows or hair dryer are available through Reception. WiFi is available in the rooms at extra cost.

We enjoyed a very nice meal in the restaurant which although lacks atmosphere having a large screen television offers a good choice of dishes without travelling very far from your room! The self-service breakfast was also excellent and good value for the price.

All in all, a short but enjoyable stay and I would like to make particular mention of all the staff (and especially our young waitress in the Restaurant) who were friendly, courteous and helpful.

Travelodge always receive some negative comments but for the price you pay and in our many experiences, their hotels, including this one, offer good value for money.

This hotel is ok for the price you pay for it. We paid £17 each for the night, which we didn't think was too bad considering it was a Friday night and there was a music event on at the MEN arena. The location of the hotel is good. It is a 5 minute taxi journey, which costs around £5, from the hotel to the MEN, and also to the Printworks and clubs. There is a multi-story car park about a 5 minute walk away, which is reasonably priced (£15 for up to £24 hours) and is about 5 minutes away from the Arndale centre also.

The rooms themselves are basic, but clean. We were in a party of 4 (2 x double rooms), and the two rooms were booked together, however upon allocation we were given rooms which were three floors apart. Tea and coffee were provided, although not in abundance, and glasses were not provided so we had to drink our soft drinks from the mugs! Only one set of towels were provided - a hand towel and a bath towel, so I'm not sure whether both occupants were meant to use the same towels?! Also, the beds were quite hard and not as comfy as I would have liked, although I know that some of my friends slept better than what I did. The bathrooms were a reasonable size, and there was plenty of mirrors, however not plenty of sockets so charging phones/cameras, using straightners/hairdryers and watching TV can be a bit awkward!

Check in was quick and easy and done via an electronic machine. The staff are also friendly.

It is a 24 hour hotel, and snacks are available at all time (including vending machines). When we got in from our night out (around 2am) we ordered pizzas from reception which aren't badly priced.

All-in-all, the hotel did it's purpose, and I didn't expect much more for the price we paid.

Booked here last minute as needed somewhere to stay after a gig. good location close to everything, Room very basic, only 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel even though a double room booked for 2 people. Hotel was very noisy both inside and out. traffic noise and sirens all night, as well as drunk guests screaming, shouting and fighting till at least 4AM. Wouldn't stay again

Stayed here for just the one night as goung to the MEN Arena. It is just a 10min walk from Victoria station and Arena. Close to the printworks and northern quarter.
Checked in quickly and helpfully at 3pm,we had a room on 4th floor at the back so no road noise. Room was clean,tea/coffee facilities. 2 sets of towels,1 in bathroom and other on shelf. Bed was comfy but could of done with better pillows.Room was warm as has heater which you can control. Bar staff friendly. All in all a good stay at a great price and very central.
