“Was value for money!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

We stayed on 15th June, we we staying over for a friends 30th. Was good for the money as we got it cheap from Lastminute.com. The room was ok and comfortable, we had a satisfying breakfast. We had use of the spa facilities which was lovely. but thought the place in general was a little dated. We paid £65 for the night which I thought was quite a bargain, so cant really grumble!.

We stayed with a group of friends on Saturday 8th June. Staff were friendly and efficient, rooms were clean (although the bathrooms do need updating), the shower was powerful and breakfast was more than we expected. For the price this is good value for money. The pool itself is lovely although parts of the hotel are a little 'tired'. Having said that there was spotlessly clean white linen table cloths and white linen napkins supplied at breakfast and a great selection (buffet style) of food.

After having read a large number of negative comments we were really worried about staying at this hotel!
We were however quite pleasantly surprised! Now don't get me wrong this place is no 5* star resort but for the price we paid it was value for money!

Room: a strange little room but usable! The bed was very clean and comfy. The bathroom(wet room) was reminiscent of a prison but was fine!

Pool and gym: good length pool albeit a little tired around the edges but the place is going through refurb!

Breakfast: the only criticism here was that was served only until 10 as checkout is 11am. After a heavy night we could have benefitted a little later to chill before out drive home!

On the whole this place offers value for money! We got it for 50 less than the travel lodge down the road and for one night stop over it was good! Yes it is tired and the rooms do need some updating but for the price you really can't complain! The staff were friendly and helpful too!

There is a large swimming pool, and various exercise rooms, all undergoing refurbishment. It has a bar with no real ales and a restaurant which closes early, and which is under an exercise room, so you eat to the sound of thudding feet and inappropriate music. No complaints about the food which is good, reasonably priced, and sometimes inventive and original. Road access is awkward and cramped. The staff are cheerful and helpful. But the rooms! poky, tatty, and squalid. Wet cubicle showers, so the toilet ad floor gets wet - you can't use the toilet after taking a shower 'cos the floor is still running wet. Mould, dirt, rust & broken tiles. Noisy ineffective extractor fans. The beds more or less fill the rooms, there is nowhere for your suitcase and no-where to plug in a laptop. You have to get out of bed to turn off the light by the door. Internet access is occasionally very fast but usually broken. The bed linens and towels are clean and fresh but the floor is sticky underfoot. No views through the non-opening windows. The downstairs rooms are the worst, but all of them are freezing cold in frosty weather.

The other reviews for this hotel are spot on. No complaints about the staff they were friendly, helpful & sympathetic to our concerns about the rooms. The bar area, dining room & food were ok but leisure club facilities and rooms very tired and in need of major refurbishment which we understand is only planned for the gym area. The rooms are also far too small, this is not a city centre hotel and there is plenty of land around the hotel.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel!

This place is confused. The gym side is well catered for with plans to spend 1.5 million on the refurb, but I hope at least some of that is going on the rooms as mine was atrocious. The beds were from the'60's, the shower/toilet room cramped and full of obstructions and the furniture generally poor. The shower had a repetitive vibration fit day and night.

They miss an opportunity to cater for business traveller gym enthusiasts as the food is NOT geared for health, in fact they have sticky cakes in the bar! No healthy options. There is no escape from the sound of step and spin classes. So loud I couldn't hear myself think! The smell of Chlorine as I booked in should have been a clue I guess. The staff were kind and friendly, and the gym equipment good the point are for that aspect.

The staff were OK, although did appear to be used to complaints. The breakfast was OK.
But the room, oh, the room...
How they could fit so many bad things into such a tiny, claustrophobic room is amazing.
Both the bedroom and bathroom were tatty & in poor repair. The shower was broken and the tap dribbled all night. There was an annoying flashing smoke alarm over the bed, which was about as comfortable as sleeping on scrap metal. And as creaky. I think I still have spring indentations on my back.
In the morning I found ants all over my toothpaste tube!
I only stayed there for one night and I couldn't wait to get out. I've never left a bad hotel review before. I was looking forward to a night in a comfortable room. I didn't get it.
If you read this and still book this hotel, you're a sucker for punishment.
