“Disgusting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2011

Room 317 was grotty, the bathroom smelled of drains. Iron burn in carpet, wallpaper hanging off wall by bed, hole in wall near window with cold air blowing in, light-shade was dirty, hanging off and with dead flies/dirt inside.

Called to change rooms, was never called back. Was in rush to go out, so couldn't pursue at time. Next morning for breakfast, got seated, when for coffee, someone else had been seated in our seats. Got moved, and then someone came back from buffet saying we were sat in their seats! (I know, almost unbelievable, but it actually happened).

Made a complaint on checking out, and was assured I would get a call back. 1 week later, no call. Rang and spoke to P.[-] (allegedly G.Manager), who was rude, and antagonising and I left the phone call feeling more angry and upset than before I rang. Best bit of conversation was when Haywood said that despite check-out girl offering a free night stay in exec room with dinner included, this would not happen, and only a 50% deduction would be made as they were "too busy to be offering that".

You now know why "Disgusting" is my description of this hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback, we have looked into your problems and have taken corrective and preventative action to stop this from occuring again in the future.

Whilst I appreciate your comments, it is our intention and aim to deliver the highest level of customer service at all times, and that comes from all levels of management within the business.

In our last conversation it was agreed between us that the Receptionist did not offer a free nights stay with Dinner, Bed and Breakfast, just merely commented "thats what we may do". Unfortunately it is at the Management's Discretion and we didnt feel that this was reasonable at the time.

I am aware that you are coming back to the Hotel soon, so we look forward to your return, and look forward to you having a positive experience here.

Kindest Regards

Peter Nyew

Stayed here for a friends wedding with the missus, every thing was fantastic, from the really helpfull reception staff, through to the maintainance guy!! the room we had was 1st class, good sized room, really comfy bed and nice soft pillows, want to take them with me!! The food was fantastic, 1st class, you guys have a really talented chef, the choices on the menu are immense, and all home made, a really treat, and beautifully presented!!!
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone who is staying in manchester.
As for the leisure club, i wanna join, but cant afford the air fare every day, from ireland and back!!
Keep up the good work guys

Hello.
I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and would like to thank you for your kind comments.
We love to hear feedback from our guests and currently we are undergoing improvments to the quality of our bedrooms, new pillows being one of the most recent. I am pleased to hear they were so comfy.
I will pass on your kind comments to Steve (Maintenance) and Neil (Our Head Chef)
Looking forward to having you back with us again soon.

We were only on a very short stay . The room we had was small but more than adequate for our needs and was equipped with everything we might need . The combined shower / loo and wash basin did take a little negitiating but once again perfectly acceptable for a short stay of one , two or three nights although if staying any longer I would perhaps prefer a more conventional bathroom . We did not dine in the restaraunt in the evening but the breakfast menu was very good . I have no doubt there may be much more prestigious hotels in the area but you tend to get what you pay for and with that in mind I would have no hesitation in staying at this hotel in the future or in recommending it to anyone else .The staff I dealt with both on the phone and in person were without exeption very good . Everyone I spoke to was polite curtious and went out of their way to be helpfull .

Hello,
I am please to hear how happy you were with your stay. I will certainly pass these comments onto the reception staff.
We are currently undergoing imporovments throughout the hotel to make our rooms much more comfortable and ensure high standards of cleanliness and comfort.
We currently have a number of refurbished bedrooms that have been updated to more modern standards, and come with en-suite bathrooms hosting a bath and/or shower, and are working towards doing the same with more of our bedrooms too.
Hopefully next time you visit the area and stay with us, we can accomodate you to stay in one of these rooms, I'd love to hear your feedback.
Kind Regards
Kayleigh Melia

The whole place needed a lot of TLC. After years of staying in hotels this is the first time I have decided to write a negative review. The room was incredibly small. The mattress was so uncomfortable and made strange noises everytime somebody got in or out of bed. I ended up with backache and tired. There were no drawers so our clothes had to stay in the suitcase for the duration of our stay. The wardrobe held about 6 items one behind the other with no door The view from our window was a metal staircase. Plumbing from an upstairs room ran through the wall in our room. We stayed 4 nights and every day had to go in search for our newspaper, twice for toilet rolls, once for tea/coffee/milk refills. The gym and pool were very good. All the staff were very friendly and truthfully couldn't have been more helpful.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear of the problems you had during your stay with us. As mentioned in a few posts we are currently taking a serious look at the hotel, and all guest feedback that we receive, in order to improve standards of the bedrooms.
I will pass on your comments to Housekeeping as I know it can befrustrating to have to ask for extra ameneties like coffee and milk when your staying in a room.
We also will be taking a look at the standards of all matresses, to see if any need replacing,
Its nice to hear our customer service was of a high standard throughout your stay, I hope if you stay with us again in the future any issues will have been sorted and you can relax and enjoy your break much more.
Kind Regards
Kayleigh Melia

Stayed at this hotel for just one night as part of a wedding party. Would rate it average at best. To be fair the majority of the public areas were quite nice but the rooms weren't great - very small and dated with a double bed pushed up against one wall. A tiny wet room rather than a bathroom. The breakfast was very good though as was the health club which was included in the price of your stay. A good size pool, well equipped gym, sauna, Turkish bath, steam room, Japanese bath etc. Would only recommend this hotel if you were going to take advantage of the health club facilities.

I stay at the Waterside on a regular basis and, for a lower price, business place it is certainly worth trying. The free use of the Health club(free towels provided), which is very large, including multiple weights rooms, a ladies only gym and a sizeable swimming pool is a real bonus.
The staff are always helpful and pleasant.
The quirks in the hotel have been documented- the rooms are small and some are quirky with wet rooms rather than full bathrooms. WiFi works only in the main lounge area-however it is free unlike many more expensive places I stay at.
The bar/restaurant area overlooks the swimming pool and is pleasantly decorated -the menu changes and is sometimes better than others but breakfast is always good.
THere are plenty of things to do within walking distance. Parrs Wood is a complex with cinema, chain restaurants and a bowling alley. There is a good Indian restaurant opposite Parrs Wood and a good food pub within walking distance, the Cheshire Line.
Compared to the other hotels in the area and price range the Waterside is definitely better-I have stayed in the others!

For all intents and purpose this is a health centre with a few rooms attached. The rooms are OK and do the job. As part of stay you can use the pool, sauna, jacuzzi facilities FOC. Restaurant and bar food is well priced and of good quality although if you can be bothered the near by Parrs Wood Centre offers a choice of food outlets, cinema, bowling alley and is a short 5 minute walk away.
Breakfast is buffet style and does the job.
The Centre is near enough for Old Trafford and the trafford centre
