First time writing a review on TA and REALLY had to after visiting Lal Qila. There were four of us and the restaurant was quiet-ish. We were seated quickly but there was also a queue of people clearly complaining at the upstairs bar. Warning sign 1.
We ordered quickly and our drinks and starters showed up and were, honestly, good! This is when it went wrong. An hour passed. Warning sign 2. No-one came to check-in on us. Sign 3. After a while we got some complimentary drinks which was good. But by this point we were totally amused by watching the chaos around us. Waiters coming upstairs with food, with literally no idea where it was supposed to go and just wandering around aimlessly. The queue of complaints continued. The warning signs at this point were abandoned.
Groups arrived - then left before even being spoken to by staff. Of which there were many. This type of service is so bad that it was entertainment in itself.
Suddenly, what we can only speculate was the manager came running up the stairs saying 'Ssssshhh!!!' to the staff. This, clearly, is not something you want to see in a restaurant but actually added to the hilarity. No idea why this was happening.
After an hour and 40 minutes our food arrived. Whilst solid, it wasn't worth the wait, but the sheer comedy of the unprofessionalism and terrible, terrible service meant that it was truly memorable. To cap it off, when paying (obviously we just went to the bar to sort it rather than wait for them), the guy was struggling to tear the receipt off the machine and had to get colleagues to help. It really was like everyone was on their first day with no previous experience or training at all.
Absolutely awful - avoid at all cost. So many better alternatives close by. Unless, of course, you want to go for the show. But eat before you go.
