“Good trip but a bit long”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

We went on this trip last week end, it was a week end break. Time in Chester on the Sat, night in a hotel and then to Liverpool to pick the ferry up. Should have been a six hour cruise but one of the swing bridges broke down so that added half hour to the trip. It was a lovely sunny start, we did have a short shower on the afternoon, would not be a good trip if the weather was bad. The guide was very good she told us lots about everything, we saw a kingfisher and lots of Herons so that was good and when we got nearer to Salford that was realy good. If you do go on this trip take food with you, they knew how many people had booked on the trip and they still ran out of food in less than three hours so that was not good, ferry is fine and you do get good views but six hours was a long time.

“A very pleasant day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

The only down side to this trip was the overcrowded boat, at £38 pp we did expect to get a seat but as the boat arrived at the pier head it was bursting at the seams! On the plus side the tour was very interesting & a sound a like cilla black come mrs bucket commentator made it more enjoyable as she really knew her stuff! 6 hours flew by, snacks & drinks very expensive on board so take your own, we had two & a half hours at Salford quays which was brill for us because our son who lives in Manchester met up with us for a nice meal, we then got a bus back to Liverpool which was part of the trip & had a lovely day out. I personally don't think this trip is one to be enjoyed by children but more for the mature person as there is a lot of history about our city & industries along the way. I had a very peasant day & was really glad I went on this trip.

“A pleasant day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

My wife and I went on the trip from Liverpool to Salford Quays on the 7th August.
Get the bad over first, DO NOT JOIN AT PIER HEAD.
We joined the queue at the Pier Head about half an hour early and were close to the front.
As 'Snowdrop' approached it appeared to be full.
We were almost the first to turn right up the stairs and went to the far side thinking majority of people were on the Liverpool side.
We passed to the rear of the boat and found one seat next to a couple of old ladies who had a bag on the seat next to the space.
She quickly moved the bag and made room for us.
We were sitting against a bulkhead and had a reasonable view.
The parking at Seacombe was free and would have saved money on the bus into Liverpool and the train back to Roby in the evening.
Bad Mistake.
Now the good starts. We left the pier head and crossed the river, we had a vey interesting commentary by a lady who knew here stuff.
We passed under many bridges and through several locks which interested me as Retired Engineer.
The highlight for me was passing under the Widnes - Runcorn bridge as I worked in the town hall whilst it was being built.
There were animals along the route with sheep and horses being seen.
We passed under the Thelwall Viaducts on the M6 followed by the Barton Bridge carrying the M60 over the canal.
We finally arrived at Salford Quays and had several bridges either lift or swing to allow our passage.
We travelled for about 6 hours and then had 2 hours at Salford Quays were we ahda pleasant meal in the shopping mall before boarding an Arriva bus for the trip back to Liverpool which took about an hou, dropping us off at Lime Street Station.

“Long day out”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Experienced the Manchester ship canal cruise fron Liverpool to Manchester. Not so much of a cruise but a view of the industrial life of a dirty canal between Liverpool and Manchester. No restful cruise but a battle for a seat or even a view. Overcrowded and boring! A further 2 hours at Salford Quays for a return to Liverpool was unnecessary. Also coach parties being taken to Seacombe to board ahead of other passengers at Liverpool Pier Head unacceptable. A very unrelaxing cruise! p.s.. Guide on the cruise was very knowledgeable and made the cruise a little more bearable.

“What a great day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

I bought these tickets as a Christmas present for my partner last Christmas. We boarded the ferry at Seacombe, there is plenty of free parking and you just follow the signs for Mersey ferries. We set out at about 11.30 and arrived in Salford Quays at 5.00. The scenery was wonderful. The tour guide really knows his stuff and was able to explain all the points of interest of which there were any. An awesome day out. Take a picnic and a flask and some warm clothes. Once in Salford you have a couple of hours to explore or shop then you do the return journey in about 1 hr. a must do trip, too long for young children.
