“Good Basic Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

I needed a reasonably priced hotel near Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations and the universities. The Ibis was reasonably priced. The welcome and service on reception, the bar and in the restaurant by the multi-tasking Claire was far better than in many much higher priced hotels. The bedroom was basic but clean and the bathroom pod had a good powerful shower for which I can forgive almost anything. The dinner choice reflects the basic nature of the hotel but was perfectly adequate, the chicken disn would benefit from the moisture of a sauce. The wine was well priced. What made my stay stand out was the quality of the welcome and the service from the staff.

We arrived at this hotel around midnight, having missed dinner, and were delighted to find that we could get simple food (pizza, toasties) all night (together with a beer). The man on reception happily served us.
The room was much larger than we expected and was very clean (although there was one small stain on the carpet). We had an excellent night's sleep. The hotel is in a reasonable position; it feels as though it is on the outskirts, but is actually easily walkable from Piccadilly.

we checked in and used vouchers to part pay for the room. Maud the receptionist took payment and asked how much vouchers we had we told her and she quickly flicked through it, took the vouchers and money. We then went onto our room. The room looked ok very basic. The floor however had stains on it. One red across from the bathroom and the other near the window, quite a big black mark apart from that the room was fine. We then went out for something to eat we came back to be greeted by Maud who advised that we had not paid for our room as the amount we said was in vouchers was not matching the amount that she had counted (she checked the amount when we first checked in) she cancelled our card so that we could not go back to our room and demanded that we pay by cash now. confronted her about how this is only now been brought to her attention when she checked over the vouchers she said she did not count them at the time and that we would have to pay the extra. we were allowed back to the room to get the money and had to pay the extra 50. I was not happy with the way the receptionist spoke to us, the vouchers that apparently we never paid have not turned up at home so who knows where they are. it put a unhappy feeling on what was meant to be a good weekend away with my sister. Would not stay here again

Stayed for a night. Good location, but if you are carring heavy luggage don't go to Oxford Road station as there are not lifts, alight at Manchester Picadilly station instead. Room is clean, decent size, family room comes with double bed and a single that are comfortable. TV, kettle, hair dryer available in room. Sadly, no fridge, bought some milk back to the hotel but ni where to chill it. Toilet is small and basic, nothing fancy. It is clean but there is always this unpleasant odour. It's weird though, the AC seems to go off at night, good thing the weather is cold. Price reasonable

Basic but nice and clean.

No problems with local noise, staff were friendly and helpful and well situated. Rooms are a little dated and bathrooms are a strange set up but would stay again.

Well worth the money we paid.
