“Good Wedding stopover”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

Going to a wedding at the near by castlefield rooms ( ie dukes 97 fab venue) we had a choice of 3 hotels to stay at on the wedding info, so glad we chose the Marriott. From the moment we arrived the car was whisked away by valet parking and we were checked in by lovely staff, we were 2 hours early for the 2 pm check in but it was not a problem and were given a room straight away on the second floor. The room was clean, spacious, and nicely decorated and the bed was amazingly comfortable nice mirrors every where including a full length one, important when getting ready for a wedding even an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe, mini fridge stocked with the usual water spirits and so on. Lovely terrace outside where we had a lovely coffee, the staff were very friendly and every one that passed us said hello, when we arrived back to the hotel at 1am in the morning they even opened the bar for us so we could have a nitecap. We nearly missed breakfast the next day as we overslept due to the comfy beds but were relieved to find they serve breakfast till 11am on the weekend ( very civilised ) the breakfast was also very good with a help yourself running hot and cold buffet lots of fresh fruit and pastries also the coffee was lovely too. We relaxed in the lounge area which is a real chill out zone with lots of lovely squashy sofas and oversized chairs while the concierge went to get our car, I could have actually stayed there all afternoon reading all the complimentary newspapers .
We paid a little bit more to stay at this hotel rather than a near by premier inn but with breakfast included this was the better deal we got 5star service from the staff and felt welcomed from the outset.
I will definitely recommend this hotel to my clients and am already looking at booking again for jan 2013 when we go to watch the lion king
Well done Marriott x

Room Tip: Choose a low floor if you don't like lifts they were a bit small

stayed for one night with my daughter. Hotel very near Spiningfields with all the restaurants and the out door big screen, a longer walk to the centre of Manchester. Hotel in nice area, the hotel was clean and rooms spacious with good sized bathroom, the rooms have nice original features. Bar area was light and airy overlooking the River. Staff very professional and friendly especially the 2 concierges, one being Govan who had excellent customer service.

Me and the husband decided to stay here for a couple of nights to get away.

Arrival
We arrived the day they were taking the bag scanners away from the hotel (extra security for the Olympics) so basically the entire car park was blocked off and couldn't park. We moved some cones so we could get the consierge to park the car. They were no where to be found. Check in was efficient and informative. The lobby looks stunning.

Room
We stayed on the 4th floor of this hotel. Nice and quiet. The rooms seem quite small as there's just enough space to walk round the bed. The bed was very soft and you get 1 firm and one soft pillow each. There is a mini fridge which you can also put your own drinks in too. The tv had a selection of free channels - all of which were naturally showing the Olympics at the same time! I feel the decor was lacking in comparison with the lobby and bar area.

Restaurant/bar
The deal we got included first night dinner and breakfast both nights. We ate in the bar due to low numbers at dinner. The vegetable soup was lovely, as was the sticky toffey pudding! It cost £6 for a 175.ml glass of rose. I found both mornings that the cooked element of the breakfasts were luke warm at best. There was a good selection of choice for everything else.

Overall
It was a good base for shopping etc in Manchester. Its not the worst hotel I've stayed in, but not one I'll be rushing in to stay again.

Arriving as preparations were underway for the imminent use of the hotel by Olympic football teams, my check in was trouble free, and I was soon in my room. This was well equipped to a high standard, with the usual amenities of a 4 star Marriott property. My breakfast was a delicious buffet, with a large selection of breads, fruit, cereals, cold meats and cooked items. Check out was uneventful; as I checked out the Olympic security was in place, with airport style body scanners and the x-raying of all luggage. This was not used for those leaving the hotel, but must be rather slow if a number of guests arrive at the same time.

The immediate exterior of the front doors of the property, including the car park, is in need of some attention. The pond opposite the front door is surrounded by weeds. The edges of the car parking places also need weeding; I brushed against a 3' high thistle whilst opening the boot of my parked car, which was very unpleasant. It is obvious that the grounds maintenance is not carried out to the high standard of the interior of the site; I stayed here a month ago, and the weeds have not been dealt with since then.

I stayed here in June 2012 with my 70 year old parents ( I am early 40's) and this hotel was a dream - easy walking distance to the city centre, local gym available as part of the booking, great bar, lovely relaxing restaurant for dinner and breakfast and overall a great experience. I would strongly recommend this hotel to all ages if you need to be close to the city centre as it is a lovely location with car parking z( v rare in Manchester) and a lovely atmosphere, I would definitely return !!!And it is reasonably priced !

Elegant hotel in the center of Manchester. Good location, close to several restaurants. Unfortunately the hotel doesn't have a gym within the building and is built on the side of a rather dirty city canal.

Spent a weekend for our 29th wedding anniversary at the V&A hotel. Lovely hotel, beautiful golden oak ceilings in good size rooms. Breakfast was very good and staff were very helpful. Went to see Blood Brothers at the Opera House on the Friday night, pleasant 8 minute walk away, had planned to do the Teppenyakie Sapporo on the Saturday but changed our plans ( Will do next time) but again within 10 minutes walk of hotel. Sunday morning went to the science museum, fantastic place for adults and kids alike and again 5 minutes walk from hotel. If you are visiting any of the above and want to be close in a good hotel, the V&A is just the place
