“Dark green and white tiled walls”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

Worst hotel of the year award. A cross between the natural history museum, an underground station and a large public lavatory. Dark, dingy, and no one smiled. Room furniture (155) ready for the tip. Bathroom shower broken, no towel rail. Breakfast a disgrace, complete with human hair. No wifi in room, or in 'public spaces' as promised. Railway lines about 3 metres from bed head.. A morgue.

Booked 1 night accomodation this Sunday with my wife and son after attending the Lion King (Theatre), reception felt unwanting, room we stopped in was quite nice, although they need to invest in double glazing because the noise even from the 3rd floor was terrible outside!!, but it wasnt this that annoyed us, it was the fact their FIRE ALARM woke all three of us at 11:23pm, we all paniced, and if it wasnt for me ringing reception to double check that the fire was real, we wouldnt have had any explaination from anyone!!no apology etc discusting!!, Would defo go back to watch a show at the PALACE THEATRE, but would look for alternative accomodation

I stayed for one night on business, the reception is very impressive and the building has a lot of character and a nice bar area. The staff are very friendly and helpful and my room was very spacious if a little dated. Unfortunately, I had a room with a view of the railway line and was woken with the noise of trains passing early in the morning. What really let the hotel down for me was the food served both at lunchtime and in the evening. Some of it was actually inedible, the rest of it tasteless and I decided not to risk the breakfast. Probably won't stay here again if I'm in Manchester.

Stayed here with work. A simply beautiful old building put to a new use as a hotel. Very handy for the vibrant city of Manchester, so I spent several hours on a cold evening just wandering through the Xmas markets. Staff very attentive and a superb breakfast. Locally discounted parking and use of the nearby Bannatynes gym. Fab.

This hotel used to be the HQ of an insurance company - a vast and impressive Victorian building. Room was good (once the radiators were located and turned on), smart and comfortable, but took some finding through the maze of corridors. Breakfast buffet was very good. Excellent central location next to Oxford Road station (yes, you can hear the trains). Don't stay here if you want a bland, purpose-built modern hotel; recommended if you like a hotel with bit of character and plenty of history.

Myself and some friends had the very good fortune to stay at this hotel over the weekend. From the moment we arrived we were treated really well. The rooms are fantastic and alll completly different. Although the plan was only to stay one night we had such a good time in Manchester we decided to extend or stay and book another night.
Natalie (the receptionist on duty) was absolutley fantastic and sorted out a fantastic rate for us, arranged a room specifically to accomodate 3 guys. Natalie even sorted us out with a PC and printer facilities to rearrange our flights etc.
Thanks again to the friendly staff....Hopefully see you again..
