I had no choice than to stay here for 5 nights as I was on a training course and this was the designated hotel. I was dreading staying as I had read some reviews - my worst nightmares became a reality. The only positives were location and the breakfast (buffet style) - although the waiting staff were unfriendly and I had to ask for tea and toast on 4 mornings out of 5. The rooms are shabby, tiny, depressingly dark and the bathrooms are worse - mould growing around the fitments, cracked tiles, the bath panel looked about 30 years old and was practically falling off. But even worse - THE NOISE! The walls are paper thin, and you can hear everything from the next door room, and I mean, EVERYTHING! On top of this, there is a constant droning noise coming from the "heating" vent ( this vent doesnt provide the heating - that's from a portable heater) making it very hard to get to sleep. And when you do manage to fall asleep, you are frequently disturbed by noisy neighbours. I was woken up at varying times of the night, each night, by mobile phones going off and conversations taking place at times such as 0340am, 0500 am and 2315pm. On the 4th night I complained to the duty manager, and whilst he tried to find me another room where I could sleep for the night, the two he showed me were just as noisy and one was freezing cold. I stayed there with 10 other people from my company - every single one of them would agree with this review.
Whatever you do - if you need sleep whilst staying in a hotel - DO NOT choose this one. If I had been paying myself, I would have point blank refused to pay the bill. I have stayed in a huge variety of hotels, ranging from travel lodges to classy country house type places - this was the worst I have ever experienced, and the reason that the owners do nothing about these problems is because they are guaranteed to fill their rooms from corporate bookings.

Stayed for two nights and will never return. On the Saturday the hot water was broken and remained so all day. On the Sunday morning the fire alarm went off at 05:30 so we had to evacuate for half an hour. If it had been a drunk setting it off I'd say, "Hey it happens" but it was due to the previous days issue with hot water so it was the hotels own fault.

The entire hotel is grubby and in need of renovation. The bar is about the only nice area but during our stay they only had two beers on tap (all of the other taps were covered off and not working).

Had problems from the 1st minute, had to ring them for directions. On ringing hotel, the guy had no idea what was next door to his own hotel. Eventually we found it and were advised that our car would be parked for us and we checked in. BE ADVISED THIS COSTS £11 TO PARK!!!! This wasnt explained on arrival. We couldn`t get into our room as the card wasn`t working when we did get in the room was small and stunk of fags, we asked to be moved and indeed we got another room. This was also small. Our next door neighbours were talking all night and unfortunatly the walls were VERY thin so this was a problem. Breakfast next day was poor, we had to wait 20mins for a table and it was a bit of a free for all. Toast had to be ordered, which came after we ate our meal. Also be aware in Manchester there must be a butter shortage given the amount we got. WILL NOT GO BACK.

There were few other choices by location and price at the time given it was a short notice trip, but for £110 I expected a bit more (though I had stayed there a year before). The staff at the front desk were helpful and so was concierge when I phoned to ask for a blanket. However this place is badly in need of refurbishment or demolition. So what's wrong?

1. Toilet continuously flowing, all night long, trickling sound.
2. Large sliding window opening to a fire escape (which goes who know's where) with NO locks on the window. Security wise I did wonder if someone could wander up the fire escape and simply slide open the window and walk in.
3. Furniture threadbare and worn down.
4. Heating grossly inadequate. The air con system clearly had packed up, as there was an oil-filled electric heater in the room which, on full, kept the room from freezing, but was hardly warm. The air con/heating controls seemed to create noise but the unit was blocked up on the inside. I had to ask for a blanket because the cold through the closed (but drafty) window was only barely kept at bay by the heater. Temperature probably about 13-15 degrees in room.

On top of that, as I had to close the bathroom door, that room became absolutely freezing with no heating, so I ended up running the hot tap for a while to make it bearable.

TV remote fiddly, bed adequate and responsiveness of staff to blanket request helpful, but this place is tired and rundown. If you have to stay, check in early enough so you can change rooms, but have to say last year it was only slightly better.

Stayed here for three nights with colleagues on business. On arrival we were told that they didn't have our booking but within five minutes the duty manager had sorted the problem and found us some rooms. The rooms were okay. Clean and tidy but in need of a facelift. Overall your typical city centre, business hotel room. As long as you dont expect too much you wont be disapointed. The hotel is ideally situated for Manchester city centre and the breakfast was excellent. I would certainly stay here again, if only for the breakfast.
