I stayed in an executive room at the Midland and was overall very pleased with the room. It was extremely spacious, and had lovely views across St. Peter's Square. The bathroom was quite small but had everything needed.

However, I felt that perhaps I was slightly overcharged in the rate that I was offered. I paid £165 for the night, and had this included breakfast, I would have been ok with that rate, but it seemed slightly steep as it was. If you want to breakfast when you are there, it is a further £15 per person, plus £2.50 per person for room service...I think this is slightly steep!

I called ahead to organise an early check in as I was arriving in Manchester at 11.30am and didn't want to be waiting around. The lady on the phone was extremely accommodating and arranged this for me. However, when I arrived at the hotel, the girl at the desk, who was wearing a trainee badge, was quite rude to me and tried to insinuate that no such allowances were made. She then started to complain because I wanted to pay with cash as opposed to credit card. This wasn't exactly the "welcome" I was looking forward to.

Overall, the hotel was good and the room and its view made the stay. However, there was nothing remarkable about the hotel and next time I will consider the rate carefully before booking.

This hotel is perfect for a mini break or a weekend away. Our purpose was to have a nice hotel in the city centre of manchester with a pool that didn't break the bank on rates, and this was the best we could find. I have to say, that it's right on the tram to Old Trafford to see the football, it's close enough to Deansgate and the shopping area so you can walk and it's a nice comfortable hotel. The pool is great for getting into, but if you're looking for somewhere to do massive amounts of lengths, its' not for you. There's a jacuzzi aswell and male and female saunas which add to the charm

Downsides, maybe a little noise from the tram outside but it didnt bother us. Concierge could have been a bit better with information - we went looking for some information on places to eat for sunday lunch as the hotel wasn't actually serving any and we were directed in a general direction, but not given any concrete answers.

Rooms were a nice comfortable size, with the nicest dressing table i've ever seen. Windows don't open at all, which is a minus, esp in a fire. Bathrooms had the nicest shower, with perfect pressure and water temperature.

We didn't have breakfast included in our rate, but at 15 pounds a pop, it's a tad steep. There's actually a nice little deli just down the road to the right which will serve you a fry up all day for £3.50.. need i say more

Lovely cocktails aswell, which really compliment the hotel. Overall i'd recommend it.

I've stayed at this hotel for 8 weeks in the last two years. The staff are unfailingly polite, friendly and helpful, particularly the reception, door, concierge and room service personnel.

Rooms:

I have stayed in lots of different rooms - all have the same basic amenities - a nice king size bed and a good size desk/dressing table with plenty of power points and good internet service. Some rooms I've had don't have a chest of drawers or are a bit smaller than others, but certainly adequate. Wardrobe has plenty of room. Tea/coffee/water etc in room. Room service food variable, but generally good. Some have bathrobes and some don't - but reception will provide if you ask fo rthem

The best bits:
nice decor - both in common areas and bedroom
good service - any issues easily and pleasantly dealt with by guest services/reception
excellent location for tram/shopping/university/restaurants - taxi rank right outside
nice shower and toiletries
good to have pool in city centre hotel

The niggles:
bath slightly smaller than standard
comforter rather than duvet
headboard doesn't go the full width of the bed
some rooms vibrate with the trams
sometimes you can wait a while to be seated at breakfast at peak times
windows don't open

  • Liked — Quite homey
  • Disliked — some rooms having tram vibrations
