After a hiccup with the booking which was sorted via Twitter I was looking forward to a special evening here for an anniversary celebration
The service here is great - it makes a change to see a venue which has taken the trouble to employ enough staff to make sure customers really are looking after. From front of house to the waiting staff all were very pleasant, the Manager even took the time to explain the booking mix up / twitter issue.
The food however is a different story - starters were good, the stuffed mushrooms and the antipasti vedure were good (even if some of the antipasti were a little unusual - good job I like pineapple - not sure it goes with savoury Italian though)
The mains however were disappointing - I had a pizza which was delivered to the table pale, flabby and undercooked, I mentioned it and it was whisked away and returned shortly after - the crust has been browned (grilled?) but the underside was still lukewarm and undercooked. They did take the cost off of the bill but I would rather have had a pizza I could actually eat.
The sides were both great and disappointing - how can you make the most amazing crispy courgette but fail to deliver cooked, warm, edible fries ? The green salad was also offered with no dressing which is a little odd.
We didn't have dessert but those being carried past looked good and portions generous.
Having a DJ rather than a CD on loop was a nice idea but please someone teach him to mix in new tracks at the same volume as the one currently playing - every couple of minutes people would jump as loud music blared out before quickly being turned down !
I had really high hopes, not just because of the goods reviews but also as it was a special occasion but left feeling a little deflated - I would love to go back but would avoid having pizza again !
