“perfect hotel for a Manchester stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2011

We stayd at the Ibis in Portland street before but recently we found that the rooms were not very clean and we were looking for an alternative , so we tried this brand new hotel. What a difference, the room was spotless, the bed and pillow were very confortable and there was no noise from the street below, it was a pleasure to stay in this hotel, and it was cheaper then the Ibis !! When we go to Manchester again this will be our first choice for sure..........

Stayed at Holiday Inn Express for 2 night while visiting relatives. I requested a lower room floor when booking as I have a fear of lifts! We were on the 2nd floor.
When we arrived the porter helped my partner down in the lift with the suitcases and my little girl in her buggy while I used the stairs! Very helpful staff. After checking in another member of staff helped my partner up in the lift to our room, while used the stairs again!
Rooms very clean and the shower in the bathroom was a very good size.
Breakfast was ok, sausages and scrambled egg, but also had a selection on yogurts, pain au chocolat and White and brown bread for toast. We went to breakfast between 8.30 and 9.00 and didn't find it to be too busy.
I would definately stay at this hotel again as it is clean, good location and staff we found to be very friendly.

My wife and I enjoyed a one-night stay in this hotel as we were in Manchester for a family event and decided to make a weekend of it. They say you get what you pay for but in the world of hotels most of us know that this is not always true. However reading certain reviews does make us wonder what some people expect from budget hotels. We have rated this hotel for what it is i.e. a budget city centre hotel, and we have to say that we could not fault it. Our room was spotless, no doubt aided by the 'newness' of the place, the bed was comfortable, the shower was refreshing, the staff were friendly and helpful and the location perfect for our family gathering and a short-ish walk from the city centre. It is true to say that the breakfast is not exactly fine dining, but we found it to be perfectly adequate, and better than some so-called five-star establishments have put in front of us in the past. Yes it can get busy, but the staff draw your attention to the peak times when you check in, and there are notices in the lifts and around the hotel. If you don't want to queue, just get up a few minutes earlier and you won't have to. No rocket science required. Likewise if you want the five-star hotel experience with all the trimmings, book into the Malmaison, smile as you hand over your credit card to pay 2 or 3 times the price of the HIE, and then cross your fingers. If you want all the fundamentals of a good hotel stay done really well at a sensible price, then stay here. It's your money and your choice.

i stayed in this hotel with a group. was very impressed had a great stay there, place is very clean and in great location would deffiantly recommend staying there. there was just one downside to it that i thought it lacks very bad in communication as a member of our group had left belongings in hotel and had contacted the hotel a good few times and is still awaiting a reply!!

This Holiday Inn Express is clean, modern and has comfortable beds as you would expect if you have stayed in this chain before.

However, the free buffet breakfast in the morning is a sight to behold! Crowds of people queueing in an area which is far too small, waiting to pick at a very sorry buffet of insipid sausages, limp toast and feeble coffee.

Do yourself a favour and go to a nearby cafe! Other than that, the hotel is a fine option if you can get a good advance rate.

This was a last minute booking chosen for the location, which is ideal for getting about manchester on foot. Really enjoyed our stay. Hotel room very clean and modern. Fantastic shower in the bathroom and room nice and big. Staff really helpful. Breakfast was included but didnt take advantage of this. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Would stay again, great hotel!

age group 40+, 22 Finn friends in Manchester for a long weekend xmas party. Hotel in great location for walking in/out city centre for shopping, restaurants. Almost opposite Palace theatre and just a short walk from Central Library/Albert Square, next to Oxford road station, easy if you come from Manchester Airport. Staff couldnt have been more helpful whilst we were there, even kept open their bar a little later than normal due to our late arrival at 2300, 10/10 from the Finns on this note! Rooms clean, better than expected of UK hotels in my experience! We stayed in a room high up and found no noise issues however our friends who were on the lower floors experienced some noise, it didnt bother them too much as we were in so late anyway. Breakfast is nothing fancy but does the job, a little small in this area so on busy weekends be prepared to wait in line....its the way it is! Accept this and your laughing, great for a weekend away with somewhere clean and friendly with no attitude. Emailing to the hotel for local information get was helpful and responsive. All in all we were all had a great stay and great memories from our xmas party weekend away.

Better than expected for a 2 star hotel, basic but fulfilled our needs adequately, we would use this hotel again for its location, staff and cleanliness.
