We stayed at this hotel on the 12th of October as we were attending a concert at the M.E.N Arena which is walking distance from the hotel.
The hotel is on a very busy road and doesn't have the nicest if views. The reception was bright and modern and check in swift, although lacking in personality!
We were in a party of four and were given rooms opposite each other which was good. We were on the side of the hotel which overlooks the road. However, as we were on the 6th floor the noise of traffic was not a problem. For the price we paid we were disappointed with the room. The room was very plainly decorated (a £29 Premier Inn room is much more inviting). There was a table with chairs, tea/coffee facilities (glasses in bathroom), plenty of mirrors with good lighting although there was a lack of plug sockets. The bed sheet had a hole in it and when going to bed we realised that, rather than the double room that we had booked, we had been given two single beds joined with a fitted sheet. It was very uncomfortable to lie in the middle of the bed and as the night went on the gap between the beds grew wider until my fiancé was sleeping in a hole between the beds. The bathroom was clean and all the toiletries you would need were provided. However, it was quite dark. My fiancé also sliced his thumb open on a sharp edge when turning the shower off.
We ate in the restaurant and had a pleasant meal but it was overpriced for what it was - you even had to order and pay for chips seperately as these did not come with the steak. Again, we found staff to be lacking in personality.
After the concert we returned to the hotel and had a few drinks in the bar which was pleasant and comfortable. The bar man recommended where we could go for a drink nearby as we were not ready for bed when last orders were called and reception called us a taxi.
In the morning house keeping knocked on our door twice before we even had breakfast. Surely, in this day and age, hotels should be equipped with technology that shows when a room that is only booked for 1 night has been vacated and is therefore ready to be cleaned?
Breakfast was ok. A good selection to choose frm - all the usual suspects. However, it was cold (I understand it is difficult to regulate the temperature with a buffet style breakfast) and a microwave for guests to use would be beneficial. Great sausages but the scrambled egg was terrible!
I think this hotel is a 4* due to having leisure facilities (which we cannot comment on as we didn't use them). Based on the rooms/service/breakfast it is more like a 3* and we have had more enjoyable stays in premier inns/ibis hotels for a fraction of the price. We are staying in this hotel again this evening as we have another concert and booked our two hotel stays at the same time. If, however, we were booking our second trip to Manchester after having stayed here already we would probably not choose this hotel. Simply for the fact that for the money we paid our (very basic) expectations were not met.
