We recently visited the restaurant at lunch-time to celebrate our wedding anniversary, before doing a little 'retail therapy' en route to the Bridgewater Hall for a wonderful concert by The Halle Orchestra. Beginning with the house champagne, we chose from the restaurant menu priced at £40 for 3 courses, together with a couple of glasses of wine. The service was generally good, although the staff appeared somewhat rushed and overworked, (not always a good sign). When I came to pay, the bill was wrong, and I had to point this out to the waitress. The food, however, was excellent, and, combined with the ambience of the restaurant, we enjoyed a quality lunch, leaving just as the 'afternoon tea' brigade began to arrive. I am fond of the Second Floor Restaurant, and so long as it's high standards don't slip into complacency, it will continue to be a venue of choice.
