“Nicely decorated clean room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

We had a small attic room for one night, it was very clean and nicely decorated. Only problem was, that there was little room to put your things, as room was quite small. And wi-fi does not work in the room, only in the pub.
There were few parking spaces behind hotel / pub.
Breakfast was good and plentiful, staff was friendly and helpful.

Thank you for your comments - we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us - we do have different sized rooms available - you chose the eves rooms which are our smallest - we do have other sizes including a very large 4 poster room on the ground floor.

We stayed one night at the Red Lion and received a lovely welcome off the owner who was very firendly . When I booked I didn't know it was on a very busy weekend as it was the Cotswold Olimpicks so the village was very busy but made for a lovely atmosphere. Our room was located at the side of the pub which was very comfortable and clean and lovely decorated. At breakfast you ate in the bar area which was not a problem as it had a lovely beams, the breakfast was very good. The location of the Red Lion is right in the centre of the the village which itself is lovely the normal Cotswold village you expect to see. Never been to Chipping Campden before but will stay again but on a less busy weekend!

Thank you for your positive comments - we are glad you enjoyed your stay - even if it was on the busiest weekend of the year in Chipping Campden. You arrived just after we had finished refurbishing our rooms - we are trying hard to improve our facilities for our guests comfort.

We stayed here on the night of the Cotswold Olimpicks so it was very busy. The owners & staff were friendly & reserved us a table for dinner. The food was a bit more expensive than our local pubs but it was very good & you'd expect to pay more in the Cotswolds. Our room was clean & nicely decorated. The ceilings sloped a lot, but it added character and as our own bedroom is a loft conversion, it was like a home from home! The downstairs bedrooms had normal ceilings so opt for one of them if you're tall. It was noisy but as we stayed on the busiest night of the year, we were fully expecting that & had earplugs ready. The bed was comfortable & we slept well. Breakfast was tasty & filling. The location is good - right at the centre of the town & near the Cotswold Way. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a downstairs room if you're tall or have mobility problems. Otherwise, try one of the top...

We stayed here two nights at the start of our walk of the Cotswold Way. We had an upstairs a frame type room. The room was a bit small but seemed recently refurbished. Comfortable and clean. Friendly staff. A good value room for Chipping Campden. English breakfast was tasty. The location was excellent, right on the main road through town. The bus stop was close by.

Room Tip: The two upstairs rooms we saw seemed comparable. Noise was not a problem. There is no swimming pool...

I stayed here three nights. I made a bad call and booked a room on the top floor, which has sloping ceilings. While I knew I was booking this, I imagined there was some room to stand up straight in there. Other than right in front of the one window, and in direct line with the bed, I could not. With a bad back, this was not great. The bed itself was a metal frame with wood slats upon which was placed a thin mattress through which I could always feel the springs. It was, for sleeping, in effect, a cot. There was no place to sit other than the bed. The room was dark. Storage for bags is under the ceiling slope, which was ok. The bathroom sink was the size of an airliner's and the hot and cold water taps were separate. It was thus about impossible to wash one's hands in the sink, let alone one's face. It was even an effort to rinse my toothbrush. Towels were ok. The shower was a tiny semicircular pod that made it very difficult to reach up to shampoo. Soap and shampoo were provided in large pump bottles. I never got up in time for breakfast, so no comment. The most astounding thing for me was the lack of warmth from the place. The chef was very friendly and helpful. But, the proprietress was just dour. She never smiled at me, did not welcome me, and, when I left after three nights, did not thank me, wish me a good journey, or say goodbye. I found this really shocking, actually, and in combination with the other issues made me happy to leave. It was about on a par pricewise with other pubs, inns, and hotels around Chipping Campden and other Cotswold villages. This may suit some, but it was surely not for me.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We did have a few exchanges via email prior to your booking and explained that you had a choice of rooms, which included the eves room you chose. It was explained that we had other larger rooms available but you declined these. You were also offered another room while you were here for one of the nights, but declined this as well as you did not want to move for one night. The mattress is new with a memory foam topper - we have not had any other complaints about this mattress. The sink is a standard British Vanity sink, and the shower is also a standard British size.

I would also like to take time to explain that my father passed away during your stay which had an effect on my usually very friendly, outgoing personality - sorry that I was not as attentive as I usually am.

We wanted a pleasant to visit the Cotswolds without having to pay the high prices of some of the areas hotels/inns. Discovered the Red Lion Inn and was beyond pleased! An historic inn with loads of charm and great rates and a short jaunt to other villages once you've enjoyed the shops and historic market in Chipping Campden. Had a room in the cottage overlooking Sheep Street and had a restful, comfortable sleep. BONUS! The food at this inn was fantastic - and we weren't served last as tends to be the trend in other village inns when it comes to serving "tourists". Tracy was efficient and offered us a warm unhurried welcome and added to the pleasant stay.

See the Cotswolds in comfort with a true village inn experience, and be sure to say "Hello" to Oscar the parrot!

Room Tip: Not a bad room in the place, but Tracy is accommodating if you're looking for a particular exper...
